This is a huge park up a hill that is connected via cable cars to another park also up a hill. There are gorgeous views of Santiago, vendors, restaurants, and different things to do. From Pio Nono, there are three ways to ascend - foot, bus, or the funicular (red square carts). The first and last cars in the funicular are standing only. Middle cars have one row for sitting.
Entrance is to both the ticket booth to purchase tickets and the entryway to scan your online receipt for entrance. We had a 9.30am reservation. Internet said arrive 10 mins early, but wasn't necessary for first appointments since they were still jockeying around at 9.20 until I asked when they were opening.
Early was a good choice for us because it was cool and not too crowded. By 11am, the line to ride the cable car from Metropolitano Park back across to Pio Nono was approx 15 mins long. When leaving the park around 1p, the line to enter via funicular was crowded and almost 10 feet long outside the entrance. Parking in the Pio Nono neighborhood seems limited, so may want to map a parking lot nearby before you drive, or take public transportation. Good experience to spend...
Read moreIf you are a foreigner visiting on the weekends, DON'T buy the redendo option (round trip funicular and round trip teleferico)! It might not be obvious on the website since it's super unfriendly for foreigners and the web design obviously needs some upgrades but this option is actually more expensive than the unlimited rides (funicular+ teleferico+ bus) option, which obviously makes no sense at all. The helpful image attached below is not available on the website, but only at the ticket counter which is way inside and you won't see it unless you have already lined up to get in. On the website, they only show the resident prices, even on the English version, and the foreigner prices only appear when you add items to cart, so it takes many clicking to realize it's actually cheaper to just buy the unlimited rides option. Honestly if we had bought the redendo option, we would feel frustrated and scammed. This has no logic at all and honeslty we...
Read moreThis is definitely a must-see if you're visiting the city of Santiago. We went up with the funicular but came back down with the cable car on the other side The views are absolutely fantastic and it's nice to see the statue at the top. It's well organized and very cheap. I think we paid something like 6K all in. The food up there is also reasonable. You can get a nice big empanada that will fill you up for about 3K. You can buy the tickets in advance but just make sure that you understand, You can go up one way down another. It can be round trip or one way we found it better to buy it on the day of and had just about a 10-minute wait to get the ticket and then maybe 15 minutes wait to get on the ride. They need better signage for the Japanese garden which we ended up not checking out. There's not much to do on the other side so I recommend going back to the station Pio Nona or take a walk to the costañera Mall if you...
