The good. Feels homely. Like your own apartment. Washer/dryer, kitchen, microwave, plates, cookware, stove, cutlery included. Very helpful housecleaning staff. Close by to the metro station Xiaoshizi, many restaurants and shopping centers around, Hongya Cave Area and Jiaochangkou Night Market.
The bad. A bit dingy in the room. Air conditioning is central, not by room even though you have controls. It disappears and the room heats up when using the washer/dryer. Front desk staff was not helpful with planning my stay and going places. Did not meet any English fluent staff.
The gym, decent number of dumbbells. Treadmills. Cable machine was usable. Towels and cups for water dispenser.
A tip, if you’re planning on using their gym the door auto-locks and you unlock it from the inside via a light switch.. Was told it was a 24 hour gym so went after 11pm. Was not informed the door auto locks as it closes. The floor was pitch black except for the fitness studio. No phone to call the front desk. On one end was a pitch black corridor with a non accessible staircase / fire escape and service elevator (not in working order with wires hanging out the buttons). On the other, a half-lit children’s room with a demonic blue Pooh bear painted on the wall. If I was here by myself I would have been stuck...
Read moreHigh praise for the somerset. I've stayed here twice. One when landing in Chongqing and one returning from a trip from Chengdu. It's a good hotel. I booked the executive apartment.
One time i had a double bed on the west side of the hotel. The view was not as good but i had a full living room and good comfort.
The second time we were offered two rooms with a joining door as i was travelling with a friend. The view is much better, one apartment didn't have a kitchen and one was two single beds and looked a little more worn. I can say i didn't mind trading it for the view. The air con in one seemed to work but not the other. The staff did try and bring a portable unit and they would easily of allowed me to change if i had of asked. They seemed to bend over backwords to help. It looks like they regularly do fire drills too for safety. One thing i am pleased with after the recent tower fire in London.
The bar did lack a bit. No beer and a bit weird. If they did the bar up they might have a real winner.
Breakfast was good and had vegetarian options. The rooms were clean quiet and big. The staff...
Read moreWe had a lovely stay at this apartment in an excellent downtown Chongqing location - just a short walk from the pedestrian mall. The apartment was spacious and had a fully equipped kitchenette and washing machine with dryer function. The breakfast (Chinese style only) was very good with lots of options to choose from. There was always an English speaking staff member on reception. Note that the WiFi was a bit slow during the evening...
