Please try to go in early morning to avoid the crowds.
If you are travelling as an individual or small group - Highly recommend taking a Subway across the bridge to ShangXinJie Station (Line6) and find the exit for Cable Way.
when you see the massive group of tourists, you head to the ticket centre across from Lulin Coffee.
Highly recommend paying for the ticking that is going one way, otherwise you will need to line up again and spend 1+hours... again... You can always Didi or subway back.
You pay for ticket to come back later and it takes 40min - 1 hour in line plus another 15 mins to wait for elevator as well as line up with 20 other people for the cable car (which there are only two available)
The ride itself is worth seeing the views at night, the lit up Chongching City centre and glittering sparkles of boats across the water. The ride lasts what felt like 2-5 mins.
Worth, just make sure you're ok...

If you’re in Chongqing, this is definitely a must-do to appreciate the city’s landscape and the mighty...

So instead of waiting for an hour for the next one or buying a round trip ticket, I took the metro to the other side, walk about 10 minutes and: voilà! No waiting, much less people... Truth be told, it's China, and it's packed inside the cable car... But I would...
