Cityplaza Hong Kong: Where Culinary Culture Meets Convenience Cityplaza in Taikoo Shing ain't your bougie Central mall – it's a straight-up local legend that's been feeding Hong Kong families since 1982. This six-level beast sits right above Tai Koo MTR and packs over 170 shops plus 90+ food spots that actually hit different. The Michelin-Worthy Dining Scene What sets Cityplaza apart is its serious Michelin game. The mall hosts four Michelin-recommended Singaporean restaurants from the Guide – a flex most malls can only dream about. The crown jewel? Tian Tian Authentic serving that famous Hainanese chicken rice that got props from Gordon Ramsay himself. This joint expanded from Singapore's Maxwell Road Hawker Centre where it earned Bib Gourmand status, bringing that authentic Lion City flavor straight to HK. Then there's Zagin Soba, the Osaka import dishing out ultra-thick chicken broth ramen with that signature cappuccino-style foam on top. Foodies queue hard for their paitan soba – we're talking 45-minute waits that people actually endure because the broth hits that creamy, umami-rich sweet spot without being heavy. Their chicken fillet is sous-vide tender, and don't sleep on the deep-fried burdock root instead of basic bamboo shoots. The Real Food Warriors The TREATS food hall replaced the old food court and now rocks nine diverse joints including Umai Umai, Hong Kong Rotisserie (their roast pork and egg rice is fire), Cha Cha Room, Thai Cook, and Pasta La Vista. It's basically a global food tour under one roof. Cultural Value & Heritage Cityplaza isn't just about food – it's a cultural hub. The Eslite Spectrum bookstore from Taiwan takes up massive space on the ground and first floor, selling books, lifestyle goods, stationery, and even hosting little cafés inside. The MOViE MOViE Cityplaza is Hong Kong's first art, culture, and lifestyle-driven cinema with seven theaters including the state-of-the-art MOViEMAXX with 4K laser projection and MM Moments VIP house. They screen everything from Hollywood blockbusters to arthouse films, National Theatre Live, and Bolshoi Ballet performances. The Ice Palace – Hong Kong Island's only real ice skating rink – has been creating memories since 1982. After a 2020 upgrade with eco-friendly refrigeration tech and new audio-lighting equipment, it offers self-service skate rental with wristbands, a stretching room, and Hong Kong's largest skating school with 29 coaches. The Numbers Don't Lie While specific POS data isn't publicly available, Cityplaza's popularity indicators speak volumes. The mall stays consistently packed, especially during peak hours and weekends. Reviews across TripAdvisor consistently praise it as "one of the best plazas in Hong Kong". The ice rink sees 100,000+ visitors on peak days post-COVID, and the mall draws both local families and office workers from the 40+ Grade A buildings in Taikoo Place. Hong Kong malls reported up to 50% footfall increases during festive seasons in 2024, with consumption bumps of 15% – and City Plaza as the largest mall on Hong Kong Island definitely rides that wave. The Verdict Cityplaza delivers that rare combo of accessibility, quality, and value that makes it a neighborhood staple rather than a tourist trap. The Michelin-level restaurants provide serious culinary credentials, the TREATS food hall caters to every craving, and amenities like the ice rink and MOViE MOViE cinema create proper family-friendly vibes. At around HK$100-200 per person for quality meals, it punches way above its weight class. This isn't some pretentious high-end joint – it's a clean, spacious, well-designed mall that's been feeding and entertaining Eastern District residents for over four decades. Whether you're grabbing Michelin-worthy chicken rice, slurping thick paitan ramen, or just doing your weekly APITA grocery run, Cityplaza keeps it real while keeping it good. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5 stars) – A solid neighborhood champion that delivers consistent quality without the Central price tags or...

Personally I'm more on the frugal side so Cityplaza to me is more of a high-end shopping mall. But if you like the extravaganza shopping experience, like indulging in some exquisite cakes at Cova or adorning your home with delicate accessories that bring out your character at Francfranc or Homeless, c'mon down to Cityplaza where it is conveniently connected to the Taikoo MTR station. In regards to my own preference, I like crashing out at MUJI, APITA, LOG-ON and Kee Wah Bakery. Happy shopping, well, despite the pandemic. Now with the government's cash vouchers, everybody is like having a shopping spree and obviously promotions and sales are ubiquitous to attract traffic flow!. Update: With two newly renovated food courts, one above the ice-skating rink floor and the other at the basement in APITA, one can hardly resist the low price and scrumptious dishes.

27/4 update: added 1★for its immaculate customer service and prompt in action. Embarrassingly, I fell down big time yesterday while sampling a delectable soft serve at Godiva. The staff at the delicacy immediately inform the cityplaza staff who arrived in the blink of an eye with a first-aid kit and highly knowledgeable in handling cases of injuries. They kept inquiring me for any pain and sprain and meticulously treated my "starting to swollen" knee with an ice pack. They kept me company for at least 15 minutes, making sure I am feeling better before they let me be on my way and reminded me to keep an eye on my swollen knee like in case of prolonged pain, seek help from the paramedics. Very thoughtful and displaying immense care and...

[Racism and Discriminatory Treatment] Upon purchasing my meal at the GINDACO stall and waiting for my order, I was astonished by the rude behavior exhibited by a middle-aged man with golden hair and glasses. Despite my silent presence and a mere step forward, this individual aggressively shouted at me, "Wait for your number! Can’t you understand?" FOR TWICE. His tone was not only disrespectful but utterly uncalled for. Following my meal, I promptly approached the counter in an attempt to identify this individual. Unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found. When I inquired about his name from the other staff members present, they blatantly refused to provide me with any information. Besides, when I tell them about my experience, THEY JUST IGNORE ME AND NOT FEELING SORRY AT ALL. Their collective indifference and lack of accountability were appalling. As someone with hearing difficulties and limited proficiency in Cantonese, I felt singled out and discriminated against. The blatant disrespect and lack of consideration I encountered during this incident are inexcusable. I am now contemplating sharing my experience on various platforms, including XiaoHongShu, to shed light on the discriminatory practices of individuals within your establishment. I demand a formal apology and assurance that appropriate action will be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Racism and Discrimination in any form is unacceptable and should not be tolerated under any circumstances.

It's supposedly the hub for the whole of Hong Kong's Eastern district and it delivers. With a large range of shops, though prices do tend to be mid to high range, it offers a wide selection of goods. The shopping center mainly serves local residents during the weekdays but weekends is another matter altogether. Filled to the brim with people, it becomes quite THE place to hang out. If you're the active sort, there's the ice rink. For the quiet type, there's a bookstore and a wide selection of coffee shops. For the ladies, high end and mid range shopping. For the gents, sports shops and restaurants. There's even things to do for the little ones. What can I say, it's one of the very few places in Hong Kong that you can spend the day, rain or shine, that's accessible (and let's not forget their rather lovely festival displays).
