The Morning Trail is a popular uphill hike linking the Hong Kong University area to Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island. This 2.7 km trail basically follows Hatton Road and ascends around 100 metres before linking up with Lugard Road. It then follows a flat semi circle path around the south side of the Peak until reaching Victoria Gap - the popular sightseeing area where you find the Peak Tower and Peak Galleria.

The Morning Trail is well-paved, a steady uphill route through wooded and rural areas with a fair amount of vegetation. It lacks the impressive viewpoints you will find at higher elevations along Lugard Road but is a good opportunity for a bit of exercise for those planning to visit the Peak.

There are some interesting heritage attractions along the Morning Trail potentially worth stopping to see. These include the 1903 City of Victory Boundary Stone situated along the trail, around 400 metres north of Kotewall Road. War Enthusiasts may want to stop at Pinewood Battery, which is around half way up the trail. Here you can see and learn about war relics left from Hong Kong's highest coastal defence battery of the early 20th-century.

All in all, allow 90-120 minutes to complete the full Morning Trail circuit if you are walking upward. It can be completed in around 60-75 minutes if going down. If you stop at the Pinewood Battery, give yourself another 15-30...

I spent a wonderful, wonderful day on the Lung Fu Shan mountain trail. A group of us (high school friends) gathered at the Hong Kong University MTR stop, and walked up the Lung Fu Shan trail. We stopped by Pinewood Battery, and all of the group, except for me, went further up to the top of the mountain (too many steps for me). We finished the walk and stopped at the Hong Kong Peak Lookout area. Afterward, we walked down the Pok Fu Lam trail along the reservoir. Except for the strenuous steps towards the top of the mountain (which is definitely optional), the entire walk was delightful, with many wonderful sceneries and photo opportunities. I was a surprise for me to end at the Victoria peak, another great opportunity to have another 360 view of beautiful Hong Kong.

I will certainly come back to the trail again, with my boys and my husband when they come to Hong Kong. Lovely trail, lovely...

Such a fun and easy hiking trail! I can definitely tell that this pathway to the peak has been modified a little since the lampposts are in European style, there are signposts for different plants and trees in the area written in Japanese, English and Chinese. There was a small beautiful waterfall as well. I would rate it to be quite an easy hike to do from HKU’s campus all the way to the peak and I also spotted a wild boar that was minding its own business and another boar with its baby which was so cute ! As you go higher up, the weather obviously gets cooler and foggier which gives the landscape such a surreal effect ! You can probably finish this hike in 2 hours but because my friend and I were taking a lot of photos, we spent a bit...
