We decided to try out Terra, a spanish restaurant on High Street, in Sai Ying Pun the other day. The decor is a little... eclectic, and feels as though it's having an identity crisis. It's seems to shuffle in between high end, casual and fast food, so it's a little confusing. We were seated under the blackboard containing the days specials, and I was hopeful when our waiter had a spanish accent. We ordered the chorizo to start, and the sea bass and pork ribs for main. The waiter recommended the pork ribs, as they "came from Spain" and were "delicious", so I figured why not.
The chorizo came with a side of patatas bravas, and was in a clay pot filled with rum. The waiter lit the rum on fire, and you cooked the chorizo on a metal skewer turning it over the flames. A novelty to be sure. The chorizo was good, but it was like any chorizo you can buy in a Macau grocery store (and more than a few places in HK), good but not great. The patatas bravas were quite disgusting, they were large chunks of potatoes that seemed to have been deep fried in old oil until just barely burnt on the outside, but slightly raw on the inside. Unpleasant to say the least.
The mains came, the sea bass was quite overcooked, and dry, but had very good flavour. The pork ribs that were supposed to be smoked, were an odd pink color (not a bark/natural smoke ring from smoking, but more like brined in some weird red smoke flavour) and almost inedibly salty. I have a very salty palette, and these were borderline inedible for me.
Couple this with mediocre service, and a group of older Chinese gentlemen (who seemed to be very familiar with the staff, perhaps an owner and his friends) sitting there drinking, and swearing loudly in Cantonese made this a pretty lousy dining experience. We didn't stick around for dessert that's for sure. The one good thing was the Estrella Galicia beer on tap.
To sum it up, this is not an inexpensive place to dine, and it's definitely not worth the price, Sai Ying Pun is starting to blossom and they're going to have to step up their game to stick around I think. We will not...

High Street is packed with fantastic restaurants, but this cozy spot, opened by Chris, a Polish expat in Hong Kong, really stands out. From the decor to the tableware, everything features adorable piggy motifs 🐽🇵🇱 The atmosphere is fantastic, with loads of Instagram-worthy spots. Their $298 Set Dinner includes soup or salad, an appetizer, a main course, and dessert. For an extra $50, you can even get a wine pairing!
🥗 Salad of the Day We had the Caesar Salad, which was fresh and bursting with flavor in every bite. It's almost like a half-sized main course salad—definitely not just a couple of bites 😆
🍔 Appetizer: Pulled Pork Slider and Chicken Wing The pulled pork slider was flavorful and juicy, and the wings were Buffalo-style! Together, they make a satisfying start to the meal.
🥩 Main Course: Lamb Tenderloin Wellington (+$68) We couldn't resist the signature Lamb Wellington. The puff pastry encases perfectly cooked medium-rare lamb, which is tender and juicy. Stuffed with eggplant and served with a special sauce and creamy spinach mashed potatoes, it’s absolutely delicious! If you love Beef Wellington, you have to try this lamb version 💕
🍝 Pasta: Typhoon Crab Truffle Pasta ($198) This Typhoon Shelter Crab Meat Truffle Pasta features a handmade pasta-like texture, loaded with crab meat, crispy garlic, chili, and basil, all enhanced by the aroma of black truffle 🦀
🍰 甜品 Homemade apple strudel ($98) For dessert, we had the scrumptious apple strudel filled with cinnamon-spiced apple slices and nuts, topped with strawberries, blueberries, and fresh cream. It's a sweet and refreshing end to the meal 🍎🥐
🍸 Drinks: Besides the food, their Happy Hour is also very tempting. We tried the Espresso Martini and the Gwello Pale Ale (both $50), and they were great value!

Read moreBooked a table for friends' reunion dinner, but the place was quite quiet, which was quite a shame, considering our dining experience was superb and the food delicious.
They got steak and fries night every Mon and Tue, so we ordered ribeye and sirloin, whilst the other friend a carbonara (customized to be without garlic). The food was yummy, my ribeye was cooked to medium rare, what I ordered, plus love the different sides they got in the set, including cream spinach, fries (unlimited refill, probably will be a great attraction to guys!) and roasted corn. The staff was friendly and accommodating as to custom requests. They even served us free desserts at the end.
The decor was fun, full of murals of the flying pig, and macho pig plushies. It'd be sad to see this place go, so hopefully for all foodies out there, you can come and visit and rate this...
