Plaza Bolivar in Bogotá, Colombia, is a living testament to the historical significance of Simon Bolivar in South American independence. Surrounded by iconic buildings that narrate tales of the past, the square stands as a symbol of resilience and freedom. The architecture of historic buildings like the Capitol, the Cathedral, and the Palace of Justice adds a timeless charm to the plaza, transporting visitors to an era of revolutionary fervor. The very ground beneath your feet echoes the footsteps of those who fought for the liberation of South America. What makes Plaza Bolivar truly special is the vibrant contrast it embodies. While steeped in history, the square is also a dynamic hub of contemporary life. Street performers, local vendors, and the lively energy of daily activities create a seamless blend of the past and present. It's a space where history breathes alongside the pulse of modern Bogotá. In essence, Plaza Bolivar is not merely a square; it's a convergence of timelines, a place where the echoes of independence harmonize with the rhythms of today. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of South American history while experiencing the vivacity of Bogotá's present. I have been going to this particular square since I was a kid, and it's a well-known tradition to feed the birds with corn. They are everywhere, and its a fun activity to do with family. I did as a kid, and to watch my kids do it and enjoy it as much as myself has been a blessing.

The Plaza de Bolívar is a must-visit landmark in Bogotá! As the heart of the city, it offers a rich historical and cultural experience. Surrounded by stunning colonial architecture, including the grand Primatial Cathedral of Bogotá and the National Capitol, the plaza is both picturesque and full of life. The atmosphere here is vibrant, with street performers, vendors, and locals mingling throughout the day. It's the perfect spot to soak up the local culture and people-watch. Don't miss the statue of Simón Bolívar at the center, a tribute to the liberator of several South American countries. One of the highlights of my visit was the changing of the guard at the Presidential Palace, which takes place nearby. The square also provides easy access to many museums and important government buildings. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or simply enjoying a lively public space, Plaza de Bolívar offers something for everyone. I highly recommend spending some time here when you're in Bogotá! Pro Tips: Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. Keep an eye on your belongings, as it can get quite busy. Take a guided tour to learn more about the history and significance of the plaza and its surrounding buildings. Overall, Plaza de Bolívar is a dynamic and historically rich destination that captures the essence of Bogotá.

Crowded, bustling, noisy vibrant centre of Bogotà. I went on a Sunday and the vendors were fully set up in the square which I didn’t expect. There were so much crown I couldn’t move! Vendors sold everything from Colombian traditional bags, jewlery, Lama rides, traditional Colombian street foods, cotton candy and candy apple…it was like going to the fair or the Carnival. Police presence was heavy everywhere and lots of security guards too. It is something everyone must experience. ****PLEASE BE CAREFUL. PICKPOCKETS ARE EVERYWHERE IN SPITE OF POLICE PRESENCE. WHEN I WAS WALKING DOWN THE STREET LEADING TO THE PLAZA, A SMALL MAN CAME FROM BEHIND ME A TRIED TO STEAL MY PHONE OUTOF MY POCKET. I REACTED FAST. I DONT LIKE PEOPLE TOUCHING ME AND I FELT SOMEONE TOUCHING MY RIGHT HIP SO I I MOVED AND HE MISSED, HOLD ON TIGHT TO YOUR BAGS AND YOUR PHINES. PLEASE TRY TO LEAVE YOUR ALUABLES AT HOME****

Is the main square of the Colombian capital Bogotá. The square, previously called Plaza Mayor until 1821 and Plaza de la Constitución, is located in the heart of the historical area of the city and hosts a statue of Simón Bolívar, sculpted in 1846 by the Italian Pietro Tenerani, which was the first public monument in the city. The history of Bolívar Square dates back to the pre-Columbian era, when the site was part of the Muisca Confederation. The first building on the square, a primitive cathedral, was constructed in 1539, a year after the foundation of the Colombian capital. During the Spanish colonial period, Bolívar Square was the stage for circus acts, public markets and bullfights. The square is surrounded by historical buildings; the Palace of Justice is located on the northern edge and the National Capitol borders the square in the south.

Nice plaza where you can find at the same time the political offices of the Congressman's, the Palacio de Nariño that is where the president lives and works and also the Catedral. It is a beautiful plaza where you can find people that sells a little bit of everything as icecream, unless, popcorn, drinks, candy, sunglasses and other things to eat, drink and to wear. In the middle of the plaza you have the statue of Bolivar where you can take some great photos. Also this plaza is very important around all Colombia because it is always the point where the people in disagreements with the bad politics of the government come and protest in this place so they can be heard and seen. A lot of the walls of the buildings around la Plaza of Bolivar are going to be painted with some writings that say things against the president or its government.
