Unique access to the beach, very clean, and courteous staff.
Booked this hotel for my first vacation in a very long time and I felt truly well served at all times. For a 'local' chain of hotels, the Dann is maintaining with the big players. Where to start, there is permanent masseuse on staff that you can book an appointment with at any time for a re-energizing massage. The restaurant has delicious food with a breakfast bar to get your day started right and the beach is FOOTSTEPS away unlike all the other hotels (they were not kidding!). The room had a breathtaking view of the entire Boca Grande coast line that can be enjoyed outside on the balcony or inside with the floor to ceiling windows.
Restaurants nearby offered quick, cheap, and delicious options if you wanted to step out for a late night snack. Go to El Cacique restaurant during the day to enjoy a proper meal and book your days' guided tour with El Cubano (trust me, just ask for him to one of the staff). He wont speak english but you'll make each other understand.
Room for improvement: The website needs serous updating (I felt like I was browsing a website from 1999), the relationship with the hotel and the beach 'bosses' needs to be more symbiotic to keep the customer relaxed and happy, and tax transactions on foreign visitors needs to be fixed.
A kind respect and thanks to the Manager Enrique Lopez for reimbursing taxes that I wasn't supposed to pay in the first place. But it wasn't until a very one sided and fruitless conversation with front desk staff (a lady named Karen) where she refused to acknowledge the problem that existed with direct bookings with the hotel and 'mis-taxation'. The hotel holds this significant amount of tax money hostage (or only as hotel credit) until you check out (as if they policed travel and border jurisdiction!) which you mistakenly pay with direct bookings. The only major tax exemptions anyone needs to be dealing with is at the airport. The front desk lady just kept repeating that the 'system' doesn't allow her instead of have proper follow-through and raising the issue with her management team the next day (I suggest more dynamic customer service training).
Oh and I got blamed for smoking as I was watching my neighbors smoke their cigarettes (I was just the naive one to pick up my phone when the front desk called). But, I wasn't ruining anyone's night with their nonsense.
Overall though, a good...

The moment I stepped into the lobby, I was greeted with a warm and friendly welcome from the staff. The attention to detail and commitment to customer service were evident right from the beginning.
The room was nothing short of a luxury haven. It was spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully decorated. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The view from my room was breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the city.
The amenities at Dann Cartagena were top-notch. I took advantage of the fitness center, and the pool during my stay, all of which were well-maintained and provided a perfect opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation.
What truly sets this hotel apart is its culinary offerings. The on-site restaurant served exquisite dishes that delighted my taste buds. The breakfast buffet was a particular highlight, with a wide variety of options to suit every palate.

Read moreThis hotel was horrible. They are not bi-lingual. The elevators stop on every other floor and you either have to walk up or down the stairs. ||We did not have hot water- twice they came to our room to fix it and on the third time I told them I wanted to check out- on this same day we had a leak in our room. They told me to call Expedia for a refund- I did not book through Expedia. They did not offer to switch our rooms or assist us in any way. ||The safe worked for 24 hours and then never locked again. There are only sheets on the beds (twin) and no comforters. They gave us one towel each and there is no where to hang wet towels in the room or bathroom. One night I ironed and the area where you pour water in was broken off. We did not even get free water in our room. There was a hair in our soap dish and the lamp and ceiling lights had rust on them. There was a cord that hung in the shower for bath suits I assume- it was covered in black spots which I am guessing was mold.||My favorite part is that we were on the 17th floor and there weren’t any screens on the windows. So when we opened the window we could have easily fallen out. ||Room was shabby, paint was chipped- I found tissues under the bed. Breakfast was gross. On a rainy day I asked the gentlemen outside to please call us a cab. He shrugged his shoulders and told us to walk down the street. WiFi was dismal- I used the hotspot on my phone.||This was my third trip to Cartagena - the other two times I stayed at the Intercontinental and the experience was night and day. The intercontinental was perhaps $100 more. Cartagena is a beautiful city and I will be sure to be back- just do not stay at the Hostel Dann…ooops I...
