NEED TO KNOW PRIOR TO BOOKING: 5 star review BUT the website and booking does not give enough details to prepare you.
HERE IS WHAT YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO KNOW.
Clothing: they tell you to wear long pants. You do not HAVE to. It is HOT and you do strenuous exercise up to the zipline. However, some people who wore shorts did get scratches and were bleeding from hitting a branch or two. It was rare, but did happen.
Supplies: You cannot take anything with you. It is left in lockers. No fanny pack, not a small backpack. Only what you can put in zipped pockets. This means that their recommendation to bring bug spray, etc, is moot. WATER: There are water jugs along the way here and there with paper cups. MONEY: There are souvenirs at the end, before you drive back, which they don't tell you, and this means you need to have cash on hand for them - which no one did.
Physical Exercise: They tell you that people with heart problems shouldn't do this. However, you do need to be at a certain physical level for it in general. If you are not, you will delay your group significantly. We were an HOUR behind because of a group who was not physically fit and could not climb the stairs and the looooong uphill trail to get to the first zipline. My sister had to breastfeed her baby and instead of being gone for the 2.5 hrs plus driving, we were gone for 4. We also had people completely give up and turn around, but you do not get your money back.
Souvenir Shop: there are 2 at the very end before you are driving back on the bus to your vehicles. Put cash in zipped pockets if you want to buy these and support those owners.
Weight: if you are lighter and/or smaller you will often have to go down with a guide, sometimes with another person from another group and a guide. They jokingly call this a 'taxi' and it's so you don't get stuck. My sister did get stuck. You just deal with it, and she didn't mind, but some people might.
IF I COULD MAKE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS they would be: bring Ski Goggles if you want to be able to see through the rain and not be pelted. Some of the guides had them. Brilliant. Wear breathable and lightweight shoes and clothes, quick drying is best. You do not need long sleeves or long pants but it is nice to have mid thigh shorts to avoid chafing from the harness. Be warned that some people did get scratched with only wearing shorts.
All in all, it was an amazing day. None of these are complaints, we just thought it odd that they didn't tell you some of them. Some of them aren't necessary to know ahead of time but others seem like they should have been noted in advance.
We LOVED the day. None of these things actually bothered us, but we noted that they did bother other people and I thought it would be helpful to...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about this place and all the people who work there.
We were kind of just winging this trip. I looked at many reviews before deciding on this place late at night while my family slept to make a game plan for the following day. An hour before the tour was to begin, I contacted them through their whatsapp on their website (amazing, becsuse of course we didn't have phone data) AND they were able to get us into the very next tour in 45 minutes!
I didbt have a jacket or pockets so I couldn't bring my phone to take pictures, but one of the zipping guides noticed this and made sure to take pictures of my son and I together, which ended up being in our picture package! Such a kind gesture and excellent situational awareness. Since my son is only 7, he always went first with the guides who would ready the line from the other end and they treated him so well. He was so excited to get to go first all the time. This was actually my first time ziplining and I was thoroughly impressed with the training/safety briefing.
I wasn't nervous to zipline, but there was much more to it than I thought! With their clear instruction, I made it all the to the end of the longest line without having to pull myself in, lol!
At the end, we saw a sloth- not even high up in the tree! Only like 15 feet up! (The photographer added the pics he took of him that day to our photo package too!)
We also did the horseback riding at the end which was a first for my son and a nice way to end a beautiful experience. We also did the little hike through the park, the butterfly house etc. Its such a nicely maintained little area, with so much respect to nature. (My husband actually took our littlest one for the hike while they waited for us too!)
I highly, highly recommend this company! Staff was super warm and inviting from beginning to end and that makes a huge difference in the satisfaction of the experience too!
Thank you to everyone who helped make our stay in La Fortuna...
Read moreWe put some time into researching ziplines and this one offered the best variety of lines and views along the way. The location is amazing, and we really enjoyed our time! We did the set of 12.
Unfortunately, we ran into trouble on cable 5, when my son let go of the cable with his gloved hand and ended up with a severe rope burn along his back and neck when he tried to correct himself. While this was an unfortunate incident that ended his day early, I cannot say enough about how the staff stepped in and took care of everything. As our son was ahead of us, the staff took care of him until we could catch up. Staff then transported my son and husband down to base while helping me catch up with and accompany our daughter through the remainder of the course. The communication by staff to keep me informed was fantastic. Staff who spoke good English were on hand, they took my son to the medical clinic to be assessed immediately, where he was provided ointments and antibiotics. Although we had health insurance, Arenal Mundo took care of all the costs associated with the clinic and medications so we had no paperwork or costs to deal with. They kept me informed of everything which helped reduce any panic that may have set in. Alandro was amazing and kept my son feeling at ease.
We understand activities like this are not without risk and we are thankful the result was not more serious. Despite the incident I would still recommend this experience because of the views and because the staff and company were so helpful given the situation. My daughter and I enjoyed the rest of the lines down without incident. Our one recommendation would be for guests to be made more fully aware of the importance of keeping your gloved hand loosely on the cable to...
