Was lucky enough to get a tour from the director of the garden. The garden is free to access. Since it has no admission fee or is often overlooked and under appreciated by the local Zagrebians.
This however is a botanical jam packed, actually over-packed, with many varitas and spieces of plans all vying for resources. It is a mesh of verdant life. A green patch of calm in the center of Zagreb.
You will find here a water plant glass house pond, a recently discovered Australian dinosaur tree, a planter with a variety of insect eating plants, a number of alpinariums (rock gardens with indeginous plants), a pond with an Asian themed bridge and Cypress trees as well as invasive nasty turtles which have taken over, and an experimental wild meadow, which proves we still have a lot to learn about nature inorder to mimic it.
On the grounds is also one of a few buildings that were preserved from an exhibition in the 19th hundred.
The gardens are slowly but surely renovating and reconstructing the garden's structures which have fallen into disrepair through the years.

Here and there, you'll find useful explanations about the garden and of specific species - in Croatian and English. It is a wonderful place to find shadow and to rest a tired city mind and enjoy the poetic pond and wooden Japanese style bridge! In the beautifully restored pavilion, there was a small exhibition of furniture and graphics. The garden is lucky to have a couple of dinosaur trees - one of them newly discovered in Australia!! (See the second picture). For some reason, the glass houses were not open - anyway, it was too hot with 34 degrees outside in late August... But the clean and even beautiful toilets were open and free! The entrance price (2 euro)could definitely be higher (5 euro) to help the garden become even more...
