Not recommended for foreign tourists! The place is supposed to be about Mendel, the father of genetics. We heard it is quite interactive so we gave it a go. The man greeting us was super friendly. Spoke a little English but tried everything to make us feel welcomed. We even got an audio guide he set up in English.
The audioguide gives 30 seconds of each topics (that are a lot more detailed in Czech) so yo will not understand anything. It gave me motivation to start checking out the related topics' Wikipedia pages. This way we started understanding the bases of genetics.
We used Google translate and it worked pretty well but the specific language made it hard to understand anyway. It doesn't describe anything from the basics and tells you nearly nothing about Mendel's work.
The museum is full of modern arts and equipments and must be excellent for Czech people but a total waste of time if you don't speak Czech.
Another example of how European money can be spent on expensive projectors, elevator, modern-art and large screen TVs to the last cent without spending real efforts for the...

This place is small, but does have some cool items from Mendel and the rooms themselves are historic. They have a room set up for children (& adults) to do hands on science to help explain PCR and sequencing. Worth a visit- won’t take more than 30 minutes. Note this part of the museum is in the same building as Moravske Zemske Muzeum. You buy the ticket in the same spot and they direct you to a different entry...
Read moreOne of the best museum that I visited. I payed 100 CZK (with student discount). The first part of the museum is dedicated to Mendel's life and work. The second part is an exposition about genetics (what is a cell, DNA, heredity, genetic diseases, breeding, GMOs..). With lots of activities for playful learning, ideal for kids. If you are interested in science (especially biology), the Mendelanium is a...
