PLEASE AVOID the green house at all costs unless you want to contribute to massive animal suffering!!
I should have left when I saw the 2 parrots (one of them a gigantic macaw) sitting on a stick in the entrance area and I regret | didn't.
We paid 100 crowns each and entered what could be best described as animal horror house.
Distressed birds in small cages, but even worse than that were 3 tortoise in a random baby pool, with no place to hide or swim. This was heartbreaking and disturbing to watch.
When we left this place of animal cruelty, the staff was enjoying what i assume vegan pizza. Great example of the leftist/woke double standard.
Outside of the green house there is a pool for kids, ironically more than double the size of the one the tortoise have... Will definitely report this to PETA.
The botanical garden management should really be ashamed of this, since it's associated with science and environmental/animal protection. Shame on you!
You can visit the rest of the garden (outside), which is for free and as far as I know harms no...
Read moreabsolutely devastating, wanted to have a nice weekend and go see an exhibition of invertebrates and when i saw the state of how they were being kept i was shocked. most animals were living in awful conditions. most bugs were in a petri dish with barely any dirt, even ones which are known for digging their own nests. a crab was in a shallow dish with not even an inch of dirty yellow water and could barely move. there was no regulation of the amount of people that could enter so some children were trying to grab butterflies. there were even boxes as small as a box of matches full of ants (local ants that you could see everywhere!). i felt sick. i went to the greenhouse to see if at least the plants were being taken care of but when i went inside there were about three cockatoos in a cage the size of a toilet stall which looked extremely unkept. the only good experience were the local outside plants and the exhibition of cacti (which is ironic because they are extremely hard to kill) overall extremely...
Read moreImportant thing to note when visiting is that this place is cash only! The garden is definitely worth a visit, however, I had unpleasant encounter with the lady selling the tickets to the garden. I was asked whether I will be taking pictures of myself as I was carrying multiple cameras. I found this question odd and I tried to understand what the lady was asking me and it turns out that if you want to take pictures there might be a additional 500 czk fee. I’m not entirely sure what the rules are because I explained that I have interest in shooting macros of the flowers and she was satisfied with the answer that I’m not gonna take photos of myself so I can enter the garden without paying the photography fee. Very odd encounter, so my recommendation is to keep your cameras in the backpack so you’re not...
