This place was a disaster and should be pulled from TripAdvisor. The place is no longer a true hotel but an apartment complex that rents out units. They are coasting off of the Boutique Hotel 16 good name and reputation. It sounds like Boutique Hotel 16 was a family owned hotel that was well liked. A real estate/development company came in and bought them and then remodeled the entire place and operate with technology in order to avoid hiring staff who can actually help guests. The place is an ApartHotel business but they continue to call it Boutique Hotel 16 "for consistency" they told me. Bull, because it's stolen brand glow. If consistency is your goal then why has the website been taken done? The pictures are outdated. There is no bar, food room, reception, staff -- all gone. The food room is now a unit for rent and I know this because I saw a guy lying on a bed from the street.
My single room was tiny with no space to move around. It was a bad joke. It was less a room and more of a well-furnished broom closet. You will not find any photos of my top floor solo traveler room on Booking.com which seems to be there website of choice.
Don't even get me started about the apps and technology required to register, check-in and get your code for the entry and room door. When you arrive you have to use apps or email with the property -- maybe the property owners are this company, maybe they are that apartment company. Whoever "they" are, they send you a code to use to check-in through a platform you need to access called app to access the front door of the property as well as your room. Also they assume you know which of the two keypads at the front door of the property to use.
Upside it had a refrigerator, a desk, an electric kettle and a big tv with two or three lame English speaking channels, the place was clean and the furniture was nice. There should have been only a single bed in my room because it really couldn't handle a full/queen. That was ridiculous.
The common sitting area in the lobby (where the bar and reception desk once stood) was nice, as was the common seating chairs on my floor. I know this because wifi was so bad I tried both locations to try and get somewhat better wifi.
The place is a 30 minute walk to Old Town so be ready to get your steps in or learn public transport which still requires a good walk to get to.
All of the responsibility for communication and having a pleasant stay has shift to be the guests role. You as the guest are supposed to contact them to give you the Wifi information. You are supposed to contact them that your garbage needs to be emptied. You are supposed to tell them a plant in the room is dying. You are supposed to ask them about checking-out. And on and on. They never check in with you to see how things are going because they don't care to know. Which pretty...
Read moreThis hotel is absolutely perfect! My room was spacious, clean and had air-condition. I had a room with an entrance to a lovely garden. It was very quiet, no noise coming from the street. It is much nicer to stay in the area that does not have many tourists and than walk to interesting places. I like walking so I did not mind taking a walk to Old Town or Hradcany. But if walking is not your thing there is good public transportation. ||||I felt very safe in the hotel area, but I did not walk late at night (I would not do that anyway in any city when traveling alone). ||||Breakfast had very diverse selection of delicious food. Make sure to ask for an omelette with ham and cheese - they really know how to make it right. If you are hungry during a day you could grab a fruit or two from the lobby. ||||People at the reception are very professional, nice, helpful, always in good humour. Pleasure to interact with.||||I also used hotel airport transport both ways. I do not know how the cost of it compares to other options, but it was worth it. Driver knew how to get to the airport using small streets and avoided Friday afternoon traffic.||||If I come to Prague again I would choose this...
Read moreI wish I could give this charming hotel six stars! Easily the best hotel experience I've ever had and 2nd place isn't even close. The hotel is small but very well appointed and extremely inviting. The breakfast and refreshments are very good as well. The building is certainly not new but it has been updated very nicely and has all the modern creature comforts (including several wifi routers so you always have a strong connection).
All the above is well and good but what truly separates Hotel 16 from the others is the hospitality. All the staff seem competent and friendly but the heart and soul of Hotel 16 is Adam.
He is the very epitome of the perfect host (he wears a lot of hats here so it's hard to give him just one title so I'll just say 'host'). He is outgoing but not overly so. He is witty, generous, insightful, sharp as a tack and extremely knowledgeable about Prague and how/where to see it. In short, it was obvious to us from the get-go that he is passionate about making sure his guests have the perfect stay.
We'd like to say Thank You to all of the Hotel 16 staff and especially Adam. If we ever make it back to Prague, we will definitely be returning to this...
