We booked an all day excursion for our group on a private yacht catamaran while in the DR. The tour was booked through Viator, to be fulfilled by Boat Trips Punta Cana. Everything about the experience was a disaster.
To begin, the hotel pick-up was 20-30 min late. The cab driver then took us to a different launch point than listed in the itinerary—it was advertised as a 35 min drive, that turned into an hour+.
After we arrived at the marina, we walked down to the boats. Someone placed wrist bands on us for Catalina Island—our itinerary was not going to Catalina Island. We were greeted by the captain. The boat pictured on the reservation looked nothing like the boat at the marina that we were expected to board. See photos below for reference. The nice boat on the left is what we were told we would have. When we showed the captain the photo of the boat we booked, he stated, “this is the second time they’ve done this to me and booked the wrong boat. The girl in the office just did this 3 weeks ago. That boat pictured is our other boat, but it won’t be back to this marina until Friday.” The captain then went on to say, “this is not the boat you were expecting, and it is not close to being the same boat.” We never stepped foot on the boat or met any of the other crew members. When the captain called his, “supervisor” about the situation, she stated she would not call the cab/shuttle back to get us early if we refused to get on the boat.” She also stated we would not get a refund despite the boat being completely wrong.
We refused to get on the boat, and boarded the shuttle back to our resort. Nothing like 2 hours wasted in a car. We disputed the charge for the tour through Viator immediately. After a few hours, Viator called us back and stated that the captain stated we got on the boat and got into an argument with his crew—this never occurred.
All I can say is buyer beware when looking at anything with Boat Trips Punta Cana. They will do a bait and switch with their boats, then try to force you to take what they provided out anyways. Incredibly disappointed in this company. Do...
Read moreWe were a group of 19 people who did a half day private catamaran cruise. We were originally going to go deep sea fishing but ended up here after all the deep sea fishing was cancelled due to rough waves.
We were on their biggest catamaran which says it can accommodate up to 31. I dont know that I would exceed past 20 if you want to still want a comfortable amount of room to move. There is a bathroom on board although it is a bit clunky to get too so just be aware if anyone in your party has movement restrictions (although to be fair maybe a catamaran isnt the best choice).
Snorkeling was our first stop on the trip which would have been more fun if not for the rough seas. You cant control the ocean so what can you really do. Most of us still made the best of it and we even got to see some cool puffer fish.
We then went to a "private beach" which in reality is a national park where we got to try coconut water and rum. A man that helps out there has a pretty cool story.
At the beach is where we had the chicken and lobster which was very good although I would have a liked just a little more lobster.
Last we stopped by a sandbar which was fun to walk and float around on.
The staff is a lot of fun and very friendly. They always made sure our glasses were full and people were dancing. The front and top of the catamaran allows a little escape if you just want to enjoy the beauty of the ocean.
Our group had a blast and would absolutely try them again. I do recommend trying to book directly through them if you can as Amstar expands the price and also takes a cut. If you have cash you can probably negotiate a bit as cash is king. The downside of course is trying to set up transportation (especially if you have a...
Read moreFor my wife’s 50th Birthday, I booked the Private Catamaran Deluxe Experience, 6 hour tour for 18 persons. Never having chartered a private boat, I reached out to several boat companies, Boat Trips Punta Cana was the one company who provided thorough details about the boat experience and was willing to answer all my questions to ensure my comfort level to move forward with booking. Since it was a birthday party, I asked them to decorate the boat, add a cake, and my wife’s favorite alcohol. Which Boat Trips Punta Cana made sure all was done on the day of the excursion. The actual excursion went off very well. The party was picked up at our hotel in a nice bus and taken to the marina. Once checked in, we boarded the Infinity Charters Catamaran, which was a nice boat with an excellent crew. The crew was very attentive to the needs of my guests. The only minor issue was I wished I asked more questions about what alcohol was included in the excursion and if there was a way to upgrade the offering (which there was). However, with that said, the guests were happy with what was provided in the standard package. In regards to lunch, the grilled Steak and chicken kabobs were fantastic! There was plenty of kabobs, fruit, chips, and salsa to satisfy everyone on board. The cake that was provided to celebrate the birthday was very good as well! Now, the crew…they were all awesome, very friendly people, who worked hard to ensure everyone had a good time throughout the day. They made sure we had good music to our liking as well as made sure we were away from the other boats so that we never felt crowded at the stops we made. Overall it was a great experience and I would book with Boat Trips...
