First of all, I've been a PADI diving instructor for over 30 decades, and I have had the chance to dive in many places around the world.
The summary: The service at the Sosua Diving Center is the best I have ever found. This is a family operated center. That by itself should tell you the quality of the care they put into their operation.
Note: If you are a diver and come to Puerto Plata, make plans with Sosua Diving Center. You will have plenty of time to go to Sosua, Make a couple of immersions, have a nice none-cruise meal, and get back to your ship.
Now for details: We arrived to Puerto Plata on a Cruise Ship. Instead of taking the usual ground tours, we wanted to go diving. We contacted the folks at SDC and made reservations ahead of our trip. The communication through out the whole process was impeccable . Laura, who's in charge of the communications was always fast and clear on the responses to the many questions my wife had ( I recommend using WhatsApp)
An hour or so before our boat arrived to Puerto Plata, we received message from the folks at SCD that they could see the ship approaching and they were waiting for us. Laura drove us to to the Dive Center in Sosua (about 30-40 minutes drive from Puerto Plata).
The dive shop is small, like all the businesses close to the beach in Sosua. And by close to the beach, I mean we grabbed our masks and fins and walked 200 meters to it.
The closest dive sites are less than 5 minutes away by boat. We dove with Ramiro the owner of the shop, and Laura his daughter. They are MY KIND OF DIVERS! relaxed, patient, chilled, and responsible. We slowly swam around the reef without anyone rushing us. We only had time to made two dives, but I'm going back for more for sure.
And this is the coolest part of all. When we got back to the shop, they had a birthday cake waiting for my wife? how nice is that! You don't get that kind of warm service anywhere anymore.
After the dives, we had enough time to go an have lunch at one of the restaurants at the beach before they drove us back to our ship.
Ramiro and Laura! thank you so much for an unforgettable Day!. We hope to see you...
Read moreIt was a beautiful and magnificent experience! The place is cozy and everyone is super lovely and with lots of knowledge, their priority is your safety and fun.
We booked a snorkeling trip and from the reservation to the trip and the way back, we had clear instructions, explained every questions we had, always with a smile. The store is well taken care of, very well organized with the equipment, the tanks, and everyone there is a pro in their area. It is clear that for diving and snorkeling they know what they're doing.
Additonally, they care a lot about the environment as well so going to the water was peaceful and with lots to learn! We had our ears above the water from time to time to learn about the many fish we saw, how the reefs are taken care of, and the places we went to... omg super beautiful! I fell in love with the sea once again, the water is super clear and full of life. I'm glad that the team was patient with my initial anxiety, because almost immediately I lost all my fears and enjoyed the snorkeling.
If you're in the area and want to have a great time with beautiful sea life, with the kindest people, please book it here! Lots of love to the staff, five...
Read moreLaura was fabulous to deal with- prompt emails, competitive rates, great English, professional, and friendly!!! It was my sister’s first fun dives and Ramiro and Laura made her feel so confident and safe. They do smaller groups compared to some of the other companies which gives you much more space, time, safety, and enjoyment. At one point a weight dropped out of her pocket while we were maneuvering to see an eel and when she suddenly started to rise, he was on to it in seconds. They were very open with us about how airport wall and that area are more rock formations than wildlife. You still see fish, etc but not near as much as coral gardens, canyon, puntilla. Online, all the spots sound “amazing” but we are very wildlife focused as opposed to caves, wrecks, blast locations. Our only regret was that the surf increased and visibility became horrible so a night dive wasn’t suitable. We did a total of four dives and loved every minute. Will only be diving with Sosua Diving Center...
