Saad Zaghloul Statue — Attraction in Geziret al Zamalik, Jazirat al Zamalik

The Saad Zaghloul Statue is a prominent monument in Cairo, Egypt, honoring Saad Zaghloul Pasha, a key figure in the Egyptian nationalist movement and leader of the 1919 Revolution against British rule. He served as Egypt’s Prime Minister in 1924. 

Located at the eastern end of Gezira Island in the Zamalek district, the statue stands near the historic Kasr El Nil Bridge, facing the Nile River. This strategic placement marks the main entrance to Gezira Island via the bridge. 

The statue was crafted by the renowned Egyptian sculptor Mahmoud Mokhtar and was unveiled posthumously in 1938. It depicts Zaghloul in a commanding stance, symbolizing his leadership and significant role in Egypt’s journey to independence.

English Translation Below 👇 👇 تمثال سعد زغلول هو أحد أبرز المعالم التاريخية في القاهرة، وهو أكثر من مجرد تمثال، فهو يجسد قصة نضال شعب كُلََّه، عدّ رمزاً لوحدة المصريين وتضحياتهم من أجل الحرية والاستقلال.

بعد وفاة الزعيم الوطني سعد زغلول، أراد حزب الوفد تخليد زعيمهم بإنشاء تمثال لتخليد ذكراه (و كان مع الحزب جزء من التمويل اللازم)، و لكم لان الملك احمد فؤاد كان علي خلاف مع سعد زغلول، أراد الحزب إضفاء طابع شعبي للتماثيل فتم عمل اكتتاب شعبي للمصريين

و فعلًا تم الاكتتاب و تم التمويل بأموال من الشعب المصري و حزب الوفد

تم اختيار المثال المصري العالمي محمود مختار (صاحب نهضة مصر) لتنفيذ هذا العمل الفني، الذي استطاع أن يصور شخصية سعد زغلول بطريقة تظهر قوته وعزيمته، وتجسّد روح القيادة التي يتمتع بها و تم تنفيذه بين العام 1930 و حتي عام 1933.

تم الكشف عن التمثال في مكانة الحالي بالقرب من دار الأوبرا المصرية في الجزيرة، ليصبح معلماً بارزاً في قلب القاهرة عام 1937. التمثال مكون من جزأين كالتالي:

1- مجسم لسعد زغلول مصنوع من البرونز و والتذي يرمز علي الشجاعة و الإقدام في تقديم طلبات الاستقلال من المحتل الانجليزي

2- القاعدة : من الغرانيت و مشكله علي هيئة زهرة اللوتس المصرية و علي القاعدة أيضا مُطعمة ببعض اللوحات من البرونز

The statue of Saad Zaghloul is one of the most prominent historical landmarks and monuments in Cairo. It is more than just a statue. It embodies the story of the struggle of an entire people. It is considered a symbol of the unity of Egyptians and their sacrifices for freedom and independence.

After the death of the national leader Saad Zaghloul, the Wafd Party wanted to immortalize their leader by creating a statue to commemorate his memory (and the party had part of the necessary funding). However, because King Ahmed Fouad was in disagreement with Saad Zaghloul, the party wanted to give the statues a popular character, so a public subscription was held. In fact, subscriptions were made and funding was made with money from the Egyptian people and the Wafd Party.

The international Egyptian Artist Mahmoud Mukhtar (Sculptor of the statue of Renaissance Egypt) was chosen to implement this artistic work, as he was able to depict the character of Saad Zaghloul in a way that shows his strength and determination, and embodies the spirit of leadership that he enjoys. It was implemented between the years 1930 and 1933. The statue was unveiled in its current location near the Cairo Opera House on the island, becoming a prominent landmark in the heart of Cairo in 1937. يُعد تمثال الزعيم الوطني سعد زغلول باشا من أشهر وأهم التماثيل في تاريخ مصر الحديث. ولكن من المهم معرفة أنه لا يوجد تمثال واحد فقط، بل يوجد تمثالان رئيسيان متطابقان، كلاهما من إبداع رائد فن النحت المصري الحديث، محمود مختار. ويقف كل تمثال في مدينة لعبت دوراً محورياً في حياة الزعيم والحركة الوطنية.

قصة التمثالين: تكريم وطني لفنان الأمة بعد وفاة سعد زغلول عام 1927، انطلقت حملة اكتتاب شعبي ضخمة لإنشاء تمثال يخلد ذكرى "زعيم الأمة". وقد فاز الفنان العظيم محمود مختار بهذا الشرف، وقام بتصميم وصنع تمثالين متطابقين من البرونز، ليتم وضع أحدهما في القاهرة والآخر في الإسكندرية. تمثال سعد زغلول بالقاهرة هو النسخة الثانية المطابقة لتمثال الإسكندرية، ويقع في موقع استراتيجي لا يقل أهمية في قلب العاصمة.

الموقع: يقف التمثال في جزيرة الزمالك، عند المدخل المؤدي إلى كوبري قصر النيل، مواجهاً لميدان التحرير ومطلاً على دار الأوبرا المصرية.

الوصف الفني: التمثال مطابق تماماً لتمثال الإسكندرية في تصميمه وتفاصيله، ويجسد نفس القوة والثبات والروح الخطابية للزعيم.
