The whole experience is something to look forward. Artic circle, Tropics, Ecuator, all this imaginary lines on the map are points of reference for a travel. Aside the achievement of reaching these destinations, The Artic Circle at Rovaniemi is a great enhancement. It is simply beautiful. We were lucky to get some snow at the beginning of November. Santa Clause village was great. Aside of the obvious comercial impact, I had good coffee, great souvenirs and magnificent views. And I do have to mention the Northern Lights. Magnificent. We fixed our trip at the Artic Circle complex. So yes, If you can, do it.

The line of the beginning of the arctic circle. This is found in Santa Claus village, and is easily accessible. Free to enter. Parking available. It's marked by large red lit up pillar lights and the line continues even going through a shop. The floor is also marked. Next to the pillars is a live webcam being streamed online so this is a busy area, as its often used for photography. Inside the information centre you can buy a certificate saying that you've crossed the arctic circle line. Definitely worth a visit. Out of season in October, or April is much quieter.

What a rip off! Basically this is a set of posts in the middle of Santa’s Village and all Santa’s Village is is a set of concession stalls, cafes, a couple of Santa/winter related experiences and accommodation. The history is interesting but, for what it is, I’d do no more than stay in town and do a day trip to say you’ve been there. Look at what you want to achieve, see what else is on offer and manage your expectations.
