I’ll admit we just came to eat here because we were cold after waiting a long time in line for the reindeer tour. Turned out to be better than expected.
Being located right in Santa Claus Village, I think Kotahovi would be a financially successful place even if it didn’t serve good food. Luckily, it so happens that they do. We tried the arctic salmon for our main course. It was a nicely balanced dish, with the veggies complementing the salmon well. I liked the portion size too, made me satisfied but not full. For dessert, we ordered both options in the menu: blueberry pie and lappish coffee (cheese and jam served with a cup of coffee). They told us the traditional way to taste it was to take a piece of the cheese and put it in the coffee, then drink it. We did that. Didn’t taste all that different to me (the coffee is good though). I personally enjoyed the cheese and jam more than the pie, the slight tinge and crunch went well with the cheese.
Service was good and we feel like we paid a good price (what with the restaurant being in a very very touristy place and all), 97 euros for two people. Solid recommendation...
Read moreA super cozy, fairly small, and high-quality restaurant—probably the best choice in Santa’s Village. It has a beautiful central fireplace, a stunning high ceiling, and some seriously good food. The reindeer dish was absolutely top-tier—served on mashed potatoes, and honestly, probably the best-prepared reindeer we had anywhere in Finland. Everyone loved their meal, so I highly recommend stopping by to warm up here.
We got there just 15 minutes after they opened at noon, which was perfect—no crowds yet, though that was on a Friday, so your experience might vary. Hopefully, you’ll find a spot because the atmosphere here was just amazing. It definitely made up for our somewhat underwhelming visit to Santa, giving us that warm, rustic, wooden lodge feel that we love about Finland.
It fits perfectly into the snowy, magical landscape of this place. If you get the chance, definitely...
Read moreAn unexpectedly wonderful start into the week: lunch at Lapland Restaurant Kotahovi in Santa Claus Village at Santa Claus Reindeer
Be in Rovaniemi since two years, we enjoyed this special place with typical lapish food for the first time. The Restaurant is so cozy and also stylish. The service is so friendly. Our lunch was a highlight!
Ingo has traditional sauteed reindeer, mashed potatos, lingonberry and pickled cucumber. I enjoed flamed salmon, roasted spring cabbage, brokkolini, onion buttersauce, caviar and buttered spring potatos.
DELICIOUS!
To.my friends: if you visit Rovaniemi and the Santa Claus Village, take your time and enjoy Kotahovi
A very big deep thank you to Ari, Niina and Matti for these...
