We (family of 5) just spent the week leading up to the Easter weekend at the Glass Resort and would really like to praise the team -- an overall exceptionally joyful and relaxing stay.||While the resort is located close to (behind) the Santa Claus village, the layout has been set up in a way that means the location still feels secluded and private. The entrance to the resort area is thru a driveway that leads to the reception / main building on the right hand side. The restaurant is also located in this main building (and thus you take breakfast and dinner unless you stay in the Premium lodge, in which case you can opt for the chef to prepare your meals in the lodge). From the reception, a walkway in a slightly roundabout / courtyard style leads around two rows of (regular) bungalows, each of which contains two rooms. Given the proximity of each room pair, they are very good when sharing among members of a family or close friends -- the doors are literally only two steps away (but you do have to step outside). We used two rooms to split ourselves up and found this very convenient. The view from the rooms is into the woods, which we found very nice.||Each room has its own sauna -- that was our absolute highlight to relax after a day out on excursions, and a hot tub next to the cabin. For those who want to prepare some light snack in between, there is a kitchen in each room as well, equipped with a fridge and stove, cutlery and dishes so if one wants there is good ability to prepare a pasta or a salad. Coffee and tea are also available (complimentary). The downstairs area comprises living room and bathroom and then there is a master bed upstairs. Overall, we felt the room was very nice, perhaps a bit on the smaller side but sufficient if you either travel as a pair / couple or spend time outside on excursions. It's probably not a setting you would want to spend your entire day in over a week -- but clearly, then, almost no hotel room is ...||The restaurant is stylish and the quality excellent. There is a buffet breakfast, offering a variety of choices from hot and cold dishes, sweet and sour, muesli and eggs, cheese, meat, fish, fresh fruit, bread and smoothies/juices. While we soon had our favourites, we also found something new to try every day. Your choice of drinks is served by the team -- our special thanks to Emma, who was particularly caring of us during our stay.||The evening menu offers a choice of starters, mains and dessert with the possibility for kids to pick from a separate child menu. Again we found the choice excellent, working our way thru steak, reindeer, whitefish and other excellent picks. The quality of the food is really very high. Perhaps a small note for improvement might be that the kids portions are a bit small for older kids / teenagers. We have found, though, that the staff were very accommodating when we asked for larger portions for our youngsters. The team are extremely kind and good spirited, it's an international group from a number of countries and that makes for a lovely setting with great conversations between courses.||Rounding things off are our comments about the team at reception, who are really just great as well. We arrived very early in the morning on the overnight train from Helsinki and had an excursion booked at 2:00 pm the same day. Our travel agency had neglected to mention (and I also overlooked) this would normally mean we would have no room ready upon arrival and thus no ability to shower/change. The resort team were super nice and managed to let us into one of our rooms by lunchtime, which was incredibly helpful to get everyone into warm winter gear for the Husky safari. Throughout the stay, the team was always extremely kind to us, very helpful in assisting to change reservations and just super super kind. It made such a difference and we really felt very much at home.||Overall, as said in the beginning, an extremely nice stay, we can only speak in the highest tones about the Glass Resort and would give a wholehearted recommendation to everyone...
Read moreThis is a small exclusive resort located behind Santa Claus village about 6km's outside of Rovaniemi. ||Arrival: The hotel provided a inclusive pick up service if you arrive/depart by air and the staff were waiting at the airport arrivals area holding a sign for Glass resort. Driver very helpful and carried/loaded bags etc. On arrival at reception check in was quick and efficient and receptionist explained what was included in the package we had booked. Driver took us to unit and brought in the bags and showed us around the unit. Explained how to use the sauna and hot tub and also how to use the window heat to ensure the snow melted of the glass roof. ||Room: The unit itself is attached to another but provides total privacy. Sauna located in the bathroom along with shower, toilet and washbasin, with loads of room. Heaps of towels and amenities. If you need extra reception/Housekeeping provided request for extra towels in minutes. Big lobby area including a small kitchenette with dishwasher, fridge, cooker, crockery etc for 4 people etc. We did not use it but can see its value to a family group. Plenty of space for open bags and cases. Living room large and floor to ceiling glass on rear wall. In our case looking out onto forest with occasional reindeer walking by from Santa Claus Village. Table and chairs, cushions sofa and lots of space. Spiral staircase to glass roofed bedroom with large double bed, plenty of power points including USB ports etc. Hot tub outside the unit and private, screened and situated to provide privacy. Glorious on a cold starry night. Loved it. ||Restaurant: was great and the breakfast in the morning was very comprehensive with abundant hot and cold choices. Good coffee. Evening menu choices are interesting (Finnish trad) and varied. Would really recommend the Artic Char starter and the Reindeer meat main course. The sorbet with liqueur is a good choice for dessert, although there were plenty of different choices. We ate four evening meal here and they were excellent. Staff and service were on point and attentive. ||Plenty of facilities and attractions close by and we went snowmobiling and also husky driving. Santa Claus Village is literally a 3-minute walk and interesting although. very commercial, but young children would love it. ||Standard of service was very high and we found the staff, from a variety of cultural backgrounds, very amenable and helpful, efficient, attentive and friendly. Quality of the food was excellent. ||Additional drinks and extras not included in the package were reasonably priced and we expected to pay for these extras. Not a problem for us. ||The only noticeable issue was that a number of guests had small children and they could be very noisy during dinner. Suggestion would be that under 12...
Read moreThere's so many 'unique' accommodation options in the area, however as we only had our car for part of our trip and were flying our of Rovaniemi we decided to stay at the Glass Resort based on the excellent reviews and close to airport location. ||Easy to book online, and great pre-arrival communications from staff answering our queries. ||Our driver picked us up in a 'luxury' minibus at the time we booked and was extremely friendly and offered lots of advice. We arrived at the Glass Resort, and alothough earlier than checkin time, were quickly handed our key and the driver loaded our suitcases on to a sledge and pulled them to our accomodation. ||I'd previously emailed to ask for room 7B, and they'd kindly given us this room. |Upon arrival our driver took us around the back of the igloo to show us how to use the hot tub. He then took us inside and showed us the essentials of our room. ||Wow! It is just stunning!|You enter and on the left was a large bathroom with toilet, shower and sauna (the shower has aromatherapy oils when you start it). ||There is a kitchenette with coffee maker, fridge, hob, kettle, dishwasher, crockery, glasses, cups amd plastic ware for use outside. There is also a small wardrobe for clothes which had three robes, three pairs of slippers and a safe. There is a tablet that you can use to order room service or essential items and also chat to reception. ||You then walk through to the 'living area" with full floor to sky windows. There is a chair, dining table for four people, sofa bed and a TV. A spiral staircase takes you up to the main bedroom, with a large velux window and the most stunning views from the glass windows. There's even a button to press in the room to clear Snow from the windows. ||Sadly it was too cloudy both nights for us to see the Northern lights however it was still a mesmerising experience laying in bed looking out at the beautiful Finnish scenery. ||The outside hot tub was amazing, there's something wonderful about sitting in a hot tub surrounded by snow, watching the reindeer pull the sledges behind you. ||We booked on the DB&B rate at the Gallis restaurant (reviewed separately). The restaurant is beautifully decorated, small and intimate with floor to ceiling glass windows. Breakfast consisted of half a dozen hot options, from memory sausages, bacon, eggs, pancakes and porridge. There was also lots of cheeses, hams, pastries, muffins, cake cereal, yoghurt, sourdough bread (which I overheard them say was made in house), jams, honeys, and a few location Finnish delicacies. It was a great selection and tasted amazing! ||This was a bucket list experience for me and it exceeded my expectation. I would highly recommend staying at the Glass Resort to anyone looking for a unique stay when...
