This winter, I embarked on a journey to the fabled Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Finland, and it was nothing short of a dream come true. As soon as I stepped foot into the village, I was immediately transported into a world straight out of a Christmas fairytale.
The moment I arrived, the charming wooden houses, adorned with twinkling lights and festive decorations, greeted me. The air was filled with the sweet smell of mulled wine and freshly baked gingerbread, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere despite the cold Arctic climate.
My first stop was, of course, Santa Claus's Main Post Office. It was a bustling place, filled with people from all over the world writing letters to Santa or purchasing unique Christmas - themed stamps and postcards. I couldn't resist the temptation to write a letter myself, imagining the joy it would bring if it were to reach the hands of a loved one back home.
Then, I had the privilege of meeting Santa Claus himself in his cozy log cabin. The jolly old man, with his white beard and twinkling eyes, made me feel like a child again. He listened intently to my stories and wishes, and the photograph I took with him will always be a cherished memory.
Walking along the Arctic Circle, which runs right through the village, was a surreal experience. I straddled the line, symbolically standing in two hemispheres at once, and took pictures to mark this once - in - a - lifetime moment.
The village also offered a variety of fun activities. I went on a reindeer sleigh ride, gliding through the snow - covered forest, and it was a peaceful and enchanting experience. The husky sledding, on the other hand, was full of excitement as the energetic huskies pulled the sleds at high speeds.
In the evening, as I sat in a warm café sipping hot chocolate, I looked out at the village, aglow with lights. The Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi is not just a tourist attraction; it's a place where the magic of Christmas comes alive. It's a destination that I would highly recommend to anyone, young or old, who wants to experience the true spirit of Christmas in a unique and...
Read moreMy most favorite souvenir shop at the Santa Claus Village. You can buy decorative objects, but also very useful or almost necessary things, such as warm clothes. I bought wool hat and mittens at this place. They work as a beautiful reminder of the place for me, but they are also functional and helped me with cold outside, since I was visiting the place in February. At this place, you can also talk to Santa and Santa will talk to you. The guy spoke sufficient English and he was nice to interact with. You see a lot of signs saying that entrance is free of change, which is true. But it's not possible to take your own pictures, which is not mentioned anywhere in advance. As you leave, you get one already printed picture and that one costs 50 Eur. You can also opt out and go for example for a digital one which costs 35 Eur. You also don't need buy any picture, but it would be shame, since you have already waited in the line for some time. There is another souvenir shop at the end of the experience where you can buy something as you wait for your picture to arrive to your email. I visited the place twice - once in May, once in February. I definitely recommend to visit the Santa Claus Village during winter. In summer, the place looks like a cheap amusement park. Plus you don't feel like meeting Santa at all, there is just not the right...
