Église Saint-François de Sales — Attraction in Annecy

Located near the Lake Annecy and in the centre of town.

The church is big and beautiful. The church has many beautiful intricately designed religious artefacts.

It seems to me that within the church lie the remains of Saint Francois and Saint Jeanne de Chantal cause i saw what looked like their tombs.

The walls are white and they brighten up the church. The chairs or benches look like ther are of a different era

The church was built in 1614 in baroque style. It housed the tombs of Juana de Chantal and Francisco de Sales, which were later moved to the Basilica of the Visitation. Chiesa anche detta "degli italiani" o di San Francesco di Sales, santa Sorgente, chiesa del primo monastero della città. Dicono sia la più bella chiesa del barocco savoiardo, costruita nel 1612. Nel testamento di San Francesco di Sales c'era il volere di essere seppellito nella navata centrale, ma non fu possibile per via dell'acqua che scorre sotto la chiesa. Fu completamente distrutta nei suoi arredi nel periodo della rivoluzione francese, periodo nel quale i corpi di S.Francesco e della Chantal (che erano qui) vennero protetti tenendoli nelle famiglie cattoliche della città. Trasformata in caserma durante il periodo rivoluzionario, in manifattura nel 1794, in appartamenti e in magazzini nel 1812, soltanto nel 1923 il santuario, diventato chiesa della comunità italiana, venne riaperto al culto .
