Chez Mamie Lise — Restaurant in Annecy

Let's start on a positive note as I always do in my reviews. The service (waiters, order to eat timeframe etc) were good.

Let's see the cons now: We booked a table a few days in advance, yet we (family with a 3y old toddler) were sat right next to the toilet in a way that I had to move every time someone wanted to use the facilities. On top of this there was a sort of cutlery storage behind my chair which meant that I needed to move for that as well. It's hard to believe that it was the best available bookable table 3days in advance. Nevertheless, I'd have sat even in the toilet if the food was mind-blowing. Unfortunately, it was not. We ordered 2 Tatar (one with cheese and one with truffle). The cheese one was a fully cooked-through beef pie and not a Tatar. (We tried many many many Tatars across France so it is safe to say that we have a fair knowledge re how it supposed to taste). Maybe it is a local way to serve this but then the naming is definitely misleading. As a dish (not a Tatar but a diff. meat-dish) it was all right. not better not worse. However, the truffle Tatar was absolutely inedible. It was tasteless (nor the truffle nor the beef could be tasted which indicates that it must have been some old leftover and not a freshly prepared dish) and we were afraid that it wasn't fresh. (based on the bathroom experience later that night our fear was justified...) This dish cost 38€ (or so I can't exactly remember) which is simply a rip-off. (I'm happy to pay even more for a good French tatar but this was nor good nor Tatar...) To top this up the side dish (fried potatoes) served next to my main meal was cold and based on the taste it was the leftover from the previous day. This was another sign of how little care was given. + On a positive note, upon request the potatoes were changed to a fresh and delicious batch very quickly.

Based on the tables around us I'd say that the Fondue must be great there and the majority of the positive reviews must be based on them. As a conclusion with all due respect if a restaurant (especially a proud French one!) is not ready to serve high-quality, fresh dishes of certain types then just make a favour to all and take it...

I didn’t want to speak bad things about this restaurant but seeing their attitude about the honest review about their food quality and services, I believe that I need to speak it out loud. This restaurant is totally a scam and should avoid at all cost.

First, their food was average. For my taste it can’t be called tasty. And the price and quality don’t match. We came here for the 2k review but the meal is very average and the price is expensive compared to other restaurants around. I would also skip the fondue, it is not tasty.

Second, the service was too slow. We came in in 12.30 PM and order right away. By past 1 PM, nothing was served even the drink. Only after I came in to complain they started to bring our food, meanwhile other table nearby already finished their meal.

Third, they tried to fooled me with their fondue. I ordered an expensive one with truffle and they gave me a normal one (which is half cheaper). Only after I checked out with the waiter and they check again their order, they brought me the correct one.

And the cherry on top of the cake is, we called the bill and give the waiter the card without regarding the bill to pay. He asked me then to come over counter to pay, and when I gave the bill to the owner, turn out that their waiter mixed the bill with another cheaper table. I paid in full my meal without stealing from them a dime and it’s funny that this stupid restaurant call me a scam and a thief. If there is a thief here, it’s this restaurant with their...

Awful service, may be we were unlucky to be treated by a very rude waitress. We end up leaving the restaurant.

Since we arrive he did not want us in, saying we need to wait 30 min, we say is ok, immediately he said it can take 1 hour or more, we ask another staff member and she let us in no more than 3 min after, clearly there were tables available. Then same waitress was in the area where we were seated, he was not stoping by to take our order, after some time I raise my hand as we wanted some drinks. He told me out loud to wait, I was surprise the way he said and came close to me he said "you don't understand" as I did not "understood english" then as he was leaving he start yielding that he told me from the beginning that i need to wait 30 min. Everyone around looked embarrassed of the situation.

Unfortunately people like this under stress or simply very rude make a very bad reputation of a potentially good place from other reviews...
