Dresden is a wonderful and beautiful city, but I felt the city museum is a little unloved. I visited the Leipzig city museum previously and the comparison is quite stark. Leipzig's museum was free and excellent. The Dresden museum needs improving to match the status of the city. It was a bit unclear what we were paying for, but it didn't include the gallery. Unfortunately a lot of the exhibits on early Dresden had no accompanying English text so it was difficult to contextualise what I was looking at. I found the modern history floor better as there was some English description. It was interesting, in general, but why was I looking at naked mannequins? No idea.

This museum has the story of Dresden city : past, present and the future. It also has a gallery. To have access to all ;gallery and the other historical floors, a fee of 6€ is required. However, if you need only one part of the two, goes for 4€. I recommend visiting this museum if you want to see the complete history of Dresden.

A wasted opportunity for the museum, a waste of time for foreign visitors. I asked the lady selling tickets if everything was available in English and she assured me it was. Perhaps she did not understand (she did not speak well English), because, well, it wasn't. There are only a few generic texts in English. Many artifacts (but not all) have a short title in English but without explanations or even dates, they bring little value and look like an afterthought. Adding to the fact that the structure / organization / order in the exhibits isn't very clear, it is very difficult to make sense of what is displayed without that context and it quickly becomes very frustrating. There are a lot of interesting-looking exhibits though, the problem is certainly not lack of material. This museum is certainly not up to the city's international ambitions, far from it, and...

The museum is quite decent but has a rather outdated way of displaying the information.

The museum is modern, clean and spacious. However, when leaving the museum, I did not have a satisfactory feeling as if I had gotten a full understanding of the history of Dresden.

One of the reason I went is to gain insights into the old city, the bombing, and most of all, the rebuilding of Dresden.

Would love to see more on this in the future and from what I have read in the guestbook and online, I am not...
