One of the interesting things to see at Neumarkt in Dresden is the statue of Martin Luther, the prominent theologian and founder of the 16th century Protestant Reformation. This monument was created by German sculptors Adolf von Donndorf and Ernst Rietschel and is situated directly in front of Frauenkirche, formerly a Roman Catholic church which converted over to Protestantism during the Reformation. The statue is of Martin Luther, robed and holding a large book, likely the Luther Bible which Martin Luther famously translated into the German language during his time. He is standing upon a basic pedestal which includes a gold engraving of his name. Note: You can take nice pictures of the Martin Luther monument with Frauenkurche in the background by standing just a few metres in front of the statue. Note: For those who enjoy viewing monuments, there is another statue of King Friedrich August II of Saxony that you can also see at Neumarkt square.

This monument stands in tribute to the prominent reformation preacher Martin Luther. The monument is sculpted as a standard depiction of Luther in his characteristic robes, holding a bible in his left arm, with his closed right hand on the bible as if to say his well known thought that salvation is Sola fide Although the sculpture is no more exceptional than any other Luther monument, it does look very striking in front of Frauenkirche and in Neumarkt.

On Neumarkt in Dresden, just outside the Frauenkirche stands the Martin Luther monument, a memorial to the father of the reformation. My guide actually showed me old photos showing the statue against the rubble ruins of the Dresden Frauenkirche, having survived the bombings. With the Martin Luther memorial against the background of Dresden Frauenkirche, plenty of people passes through here both locals and visitors alike, making this square a particularly interesting place to...
