Visiting the Old Opera House in Frankfurt was truly a magical experience. As I approached the building, I was immediately struck by its grand architecture – the intricate details, the grand columns, and the way it majestically stands against the modern skyline. It felt like stepping back in time to an era of elegance and classical beauty. Inside, the atmosphere was equally enchanting. The acoustics were incredible, and whether it’s a concert or just a casual visit, the ambiance transports you to a world of music and art. I couldn't help but admire the beautiful chandeliers and classic interior design, which add to the timeless charm of the place. Overall, the Old Opera House is a must-see in Frankfurt, whether you're an opera enthusiast or simply looking to experience a piece of the city's cultural heritage. I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary!

Судьба подарила Старой опере Франкфурта крайне торжественное рождение, ведь на ее открытии присутствовала особа королевской крови. Если быть точным, то состоялось все роскошное действо в 1880 г., а почтил визитом творение архитектора Рихарда Люкае лично кайзер Вильгельм II. Построенная в стиле неоренессанса, с двойным фронтоном, напоминающим греческие портики, Опера стала поистине украшением города. Она не только привлекала всеобщее внимание, но и вызывала исключительно хвалебные отзывы критиков. Множество статуй на крыше, пастельный благородный оттенок стен и девиз «Истинному, прекрасному, доброму» — стали ее визитной карточкой. Увы, Вторая мировая не щадила ни людей, ни города, так что к моменту окончания войны от здания Старой оперы практически ничего не осталось. Вплоть до конца 1970-х «самые красивые руины города», как их называли франкфуртцы, были не востребованы. И хотя душа каждого жителя города болела за музыкальный театр, решиться ни на окончательное разрушение, ни на реставрацию никто не мог. К счастью, жажду вновь услышать музыку в прекрасных стенах Оперы возобладала и всем миром решили скинуться на восстановление здания. В 1981 г. закончились работы, благодаря которым фасад и холл вернули свой исторический облик, а расположенные внутри два зала и все технические помещения стали ультра-современными и оснащенными на «пять с плюсом». Сегодня здесь проходят как концерты классической музыки, так и выступления рок-, джаз- и поп-групп, а также всевозможные балы и награждения. Здание новой Старой оперы может похвастать сразу двумя красивейшими залами. Главный зал — Большой, он отделан красным деревом и славится своей превосходной акустикой. Второй зал носит, что понятно, название «Малый» (или «зал Моцарта»). В нем практически каждый день устраивают концерты известные солисты и музыкальные коллективы со всей Европы. Перед зданием музыкального театра установили изящный фонтан, выполненный по всем канонам классицизма. Освежающий в летний полдень едва долетающими брызгами, и создающий удивительный ансамбль вкупе со зданием Старой оперы, он стал излюбленным местом свиданий всех жителей Франкфурта.

Stunning historic building from the 19th century. Apparently it was bombed during the war, but the external area survived and the internal area was rebuilt in a lovely modern style. It is beautiful inside and out. At night the area around is lit up by beautiful street lamps. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English (as mein Deutsche is a bit sketchy). We visited in April '23 and booked to see West Side Story - with an American cast. Fabulous show. Well worth visiting the Alte Oper as they have a great schedule of events and performances. You can drinks inside of course, but there are many restaurants and places to get a drink in the immediate area.
