If you are able to climb all the way to the top, then an absolutely beautiful view of this gorgeous town waits for you. You can get the 360 degree view of Rothenburg, the way the city wall runs through the edge of the city, the different watch towers and churches, which I would say that everyone must experience. Be warned. The tower is normally accessible around the corner at the Rathaus, in the town square. The man in booth upon entering this building not the Rathaus but a museum) later clarified, after I bought two tickets, that this was a museum only. He wouldn't refund my money when I said I was only interested in climbing the tower. Another couple suffered the same fate. He should advise tourists this before selling tickets! Das mächtige Rathaus der Stadt besteht aus zwei Teilen. Das gotische Rathaus mit dem Rathausturm stammt aus der Zeit zwischen 1250 – 1400. Der vordere Renaissancebau wurde in den Jahren 1572–1578 errichtet, die Arkaden wurden 1681 angefügt. Die Gebäudeteile sind durch den Lichthof verbunden. Am Portal des Lichthofes sind links und rechts die alten Rothenburger Maße zu sehen. Da im Mittelalter jeder noch so kleine Staat über seine eigenen Maße verfügte, wurden diese öffentlich am Marktplatz kundgetan. Zu sehen sind links „Rute“, „Elle“ und „Schuh“, auf der rechten Seite das „Klafter“.
Architektonisch bedeutend ist der Rathausturm, dessen Besonderheit darin liegt, dass er kein eigenes Fundament besitzt, sondern nur auf den Giebel aufgesetzt wurde. Die Aussichtsplattform bietet einen wunderbaren Blick über die Altstadt.
