The overall experience was as pleasant as it could be. I lost my passport so obviously the circumstances were not enjoyable. The lady taking pictures at the Embassy was extremely nice to me and walked me through the process and calmed me down with her kind words.

The only thing I would like to comment on is that when I called the Embassy here they gave me wrong information two times. I lost my passport in Santorini and they told me that I could get on the airline with a police report (all my identification was in my purse that was stolen). Ryanair would not allow this. I called back and they said they were not in control of what the airline allows (Ok, but why did you tell me they would allow it then). They then told me to book a new flight with a Greek airline, because they would let me on the plane. I called multiple airlines and none of them would let me on. I ended up booking an 8 hour ferry, luckily there was one that day. Consular staff are knowledge and try to help you where they're able. I have nothing but positive things to say about them.

However, the private G4S security need to calm down. They're rude and not helpful. Once they finally let me in the building, I got my services done, went to the restroom, but prior to leaving I struck up a conversion with a fellow American and his family that unfortunately had lost their passports in a local coffee shop. I spoke with them for 3-5 minutes until a private security guard told me I needed to leave.

To G4S security I can only say thank you for providing an accurate picture of Greek culture to every American that steps through the doors of our Embassy. You people are rude and unnecessarily aggressive towards Americans and foreigners alike. Perhaps they're jealous of Americans or just poorly trained, I can't say as I would only be speculating. God...
