Hytra is not just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey that offers an unforgettable blend of exquisite flavors and stunning scenery. As a Michelin star establishment, it promises a dining experience that is both luxurious and thoughtful. My recent visit confirmed this reputation as I was treated to a remarkable degustation menu that delighted all my senses. From the moment I entered, I was captivated by the breathtaking views of Athens. The restaurant's ambiance perfectly complements its location, with panoramic vistas that create a serene backdrop for an extraordinary meal. The elegant decor and soft lighting set a sophisticated tone, making it clear that this was going to be a special evening. I had communicated in advance about my dietary preferences, indicating my passion for seafood, specifically shrimp and lobster. The attentive staff went above and beyond to ensure my experience was perfect, creating a customized ten-course tasting menu that showcased their culinary creativity while catering to my tastes. Each dish was a masterpiece, artfully presented and bursting with flavor. The first course was a beautiful introduction to the meal—a delicate Potato tart inside was egg leeks egg yolks and grounded Greek truffle. As I savored each bite, I appreciated the careful balance of textures and flavors. What struck me most was the sheer attention to detail in both presentation and taste. Every dish arrived like a piece of art, skillfully arranged to entice the eyes before capturing the palate. The chefs at Hytra clearly have a passion for their craft, which shone through in each carefully constructed course. As I approached the final dishes, I was pleasantly surprised by a refreshing palate cleanser—an interlude of sorbet infused with local herbs, offering a light and invigorating contrast to the richness I had enjoyed thus far. With each course, the attentive service enhanced my experience, with knowledgeable staff who passionately shared the inspiration behind each dish. This level of hospitality complemented the exceptional culinary offerings, ensuring that my night at Hytra was nothing short of magical. As I left the restaurant, I was completely satisfied, still reminiscing about the beautiful flavors and creativity that each dish offered. Hytra is more than just a dining destination; it is a celebration of culinary artistry in the heart of Athens. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a remarkable gastronomic experience that goes beyond mere dining—it's a feast for the senses that you won’t want to miss.

From the moment I stepped into Hytra, my culinary journey was nothing short of magical. I opted for the grand tasting menu and was transported to an enchanting world with every bite. The edible flowers and plants delicately presented in the dishes were a standout for me. It truly made me feel as though I was a fairy meandering through a mystical forest – ethereal and surreal. Each plate brought with it a symphony of unexpected textures, engaging the senses in a delightful dance. Despite my intolerance to apple, the chef was exceptionally considerate and adjusted the menu to cater to my needs, a gesture I deeply appreciated. The presentation was simply stunning. The natural, flowery theme was evident in every dish, encapsulating the restaurant's dedication to aesthetics and flavor in equal measure. Amongst the myriad of delights, the selection of breads stood out as my absolute favourite! Crusty, fluffy, and with an array of flavors that sang harmoniously. Complementing the food was the impeccable service. The waiters were not only kind and helpful but also ensured a swift and seamless dining experience. Towards the end, I expressed my desire to take the menu home. While it wasn’t a common practice, the management graciously obliged, further emphasizing their commitment to ensuring their patrons leave with the best of memories. However, my only point of contention was the restaurant's decoration. Being a rooftop, it indeed boasted a breathtaking view of the Acropolis. Yet, the interior decoration felt somewhat lacking. I wished for a decor that resonated with the thematic beauty of the food. Nonetheless, this minor hiccup didn't diminish the overall enchantment of my dining experience. In summary, my time at Hytra was transcendent. From the otherworldly dishes to the stellar service, it's a must-visit for any gastronome. it

Last night my business partner and friend Melissa and I decided it was time to continue our visiting of the Michelin starred restaurants in the Athens area. If you have read any of my past reviews you can see that that Botrini's and Varoulko both Michelin starred restaurants were given 5 stars in the review because they were both outstanding and are deserving of the rating that Michelin has awarded them. We drove to Hytra in a horrendous rainstorm and still came with the expectation of having a sensational meal. We had looked at the menu prior to our getting to the restaurant and we both agreed that the best way to really get an overview of the quality of the food, presentation, taste and variety was to order the 14 course tasting menu and we were now ready to start our culinary adventure. We ordered a bottle of Clos Stegasta which is produced in the hills of Tinos Island, it’s a crispy dry wine with a hint of acidity. I don't want to say it yet, but truthfully this was the highlight of our dinner. After 3 hours we still had 4 more courses to be served and we had both reached the same conclusion there was no reason to spend another hour waiting for anything else, it wasn't going to be worth the wait. Attached you will see the menu and the pictures of the dishes we had, being that there were so many I'll comment here in sequential order with a brief comment on those we ate. 1. Crab Tart - looked good, lacked flavor 2. Waffle with seaweed cream and salt - dry and tasteless 3. Clams - bland at best 4. Shrimp with pine emulsion - overpowered by the taste of salt 5. Fresh water crayfish - acceptable, hard to believe something that wasn't poor but acceptable a step up. Hope springs eternal we know that there are 9 more to go. 6. Beef with cream of Limmons - it looked like it was going to be great but believe it or not it was dried out. 7. Black Pork - again it didn't come close to tasting nearly as well as it looked. We were truly of the opinion that the kitchen was using a new staff with limited experience. 8. Carob Branch - not really sure what they were trying to accomplish with this, it was really inedible. As far as the balance of the couple of courses we had nothing was special and we were already 3 1/2 hours into this meal. The servers and staff were truly representative of a Michelin rated restaurant so we do applaud them. Hopefully if anyone reading this goes we hope you have a better experience than we did.

It was good food. I think my treatment of any Michelin restaurants will always be a bit harsher due to the pricetag and expectation, though, so some nitpicking critiques: - there were a large group of other diners that were a bit loud and disruptive, which is hard for the restaurant to control, but did ruin the atmosphere a bit - some lights fell halfway through dinner, which is mildly concerning; somewhat understandable since they had just moved to the fuga location - the area leading up to the restaurant was also not very organized - slightly sad to have been charged for water and asked for a tip, but alas... overall attentive service, can't complain - it's been a while so my impression is fuzzy now, but the seeds (?) in the fish dish were a little too hard, the mixture of flavors in the sorbet was not exactly complementary, and the peanut-shaped chocolates were fine but a very underwhelming note to end on - not very memorable food, in general The good: - I really liked the pollen infused butter with the milk bread, very sweet and enjoyable, and has the added benefit of filling you up; honestly I'm still thinking about the butter so there's that - the views are pleasant, though it can get a bit chilly at night, and the view of the Acropolis is no more :( - cozy lighting and atmosphere - I appreciate that local ingredients were sourced for the menu, though some of the explanations were a bit lost on me due to how fast the waiters spoke/enunciated - good price for a Michelin-starred restaurant Overall, it's still a nice place to splurge on for a celebratory occasion or for an initial foray into "fine dining" / Michelin establishments, but not too special if you've tried similar things before. (the pollen butter though... *chef's kiss*)
