Kowalski — Restaurant in Athens

My travel companions and I passed the bar (we affectionately called the smirking penguin, due to the picture on the outer wall), on the way up the hill to dinner at Orizontes. We had walked around Arhens all day, a d decided to finish the night on a walk down the hill to out hotel (NJV Athens Plaza). Halfway down the hill, we can across Kowalski Bar (aka Smirking Penguin) again. Sounds like fate... right? At least a place for a drink!

We sat outside and noticed the small ferris wheel decoration and an design motif in the style of Baz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge movie. We decided Cocktails and dessert were the call of the night! We had VinSanto (raisinated dessert wine), a passion fruit mule, a spicy tequila and mezcal cocktail and a pineapple cocktail. These were the best Cocktails we had during our stay in Athen! Well thought out, beautifully balanced and delicious.

We also ordered the creme brulee and a chocolate sphere dessert. The creme brulee was the perfect "just set" consistency. Creamy and rich, without being over cooked. A lovely crispy sugar shell and some blackberry and passionfruit on top. The chocolate down (with liquid chocolate sauce pour over to reveal the tasty things underneath). Lots of different flavors and textures and chocolate.

While it was a quick stop, Kowalski Bar was memorable and delicious. Highly recommend if you are in the part of Athens, or if you are going to/coming from Orizontes on the hill. Kowalski is the gold standard for hospitality in Athens. Gracious, friendly, prompt service. Gorgeous furnishings and cozy atmosphere. Excellent, delicious food. Reasonable prices. The jazz music wasn’t too loud and contributed to the overall old world charm. From the clean black and white tile floors, the beautiful blue barstools, the lamps and lighting, the giant windows, the chandeliers, the color choices and decor, everything is neat and clean, nothing is worn out. There is indoor seating, outdoor seating, and bar seating. The restroom upstairs is beautiful and clean. Είχα πάει ξανά άλλη μια φορά απόγευμα και είχα πιει ένα πολύ γευστικό τσάι!

Αυτή τη φορά πήγαμε 19.30, και μας είπανε ότι δε σερβίρουνε καφέ, σοκολάτες και τα συναφή! Ιούνιο μήνα, αλλά ας δεχτούμε ότι αυτή είναι η πολιτική του καταστήματος!

πήραμε να φάμε! 2 άτομα και ένα μικρό κορίτσι (έφαγε μόνο τηγανιτές πατάτες με σως από το burger)

πήραμε 1 starter & 2 κυρίως! Το starter - sticks κοτόπουλου, το οποίο πραγματικά δεν ήταν κάτι ιδιαίτερο και κόστιζε αν θυμάμαι καλά και δε κάνω λάθος κάπου 10-11,5€ 5 κομμάτια ! Τα κυρίως - Κοτόπουλο με πουρέ μανιταριών (που εν τέλει είχε και τρούφα και νομίζω ΔΕΝ το έλεγε στο κατάλογο) αν κάνω λάθος ας μου το αναφέρει το μαγαζί. και έλεγε και σπαράγγια! και είχε 2 μικρά, δηλαδή κοροϊδία τέλος burger με ένα σκληρό μπιφτέκι, ίσως ελάχιστο έως καθόλου ίχνος σάλτσας εσωτερικά. Και με καμένο ψωμάκι!

Πληρώσαμε 45€, τα φάγαμε, τα πιάτα έμειναν άδεια γιατί κυριολεκτικά πεινούσαμε. ωστόσο όσο αφορά το προσωπικό να πω το εξής, το παιδί στο bar + ο σερβιτόρος πολύ ευγενικοί! Μια κοπέλα σερβιτόρα, που προσπάθησε να είναι εξυπηρετική, Και τι εννοώ με αυτό έρχεται εξαρχής και μας ρωτάει αν θέλουμε βοήθεια, της λέω ναι, αρπάζει τον κατάλογο κυριολεκτικά από την άλλη κοπέλα, που ήταν αφημένος στο τραπέζι, τον γύρισε προς εμένα, και μου είπε να δω εκεί, αυτό το έκανα και μόνη μου αφού φάγαμε, και μας ρώτησε αν ήταν όλα καλά εφόσον τα πιάτα ήταν άδεια, ήμασταν ειλικρινείς και της είπαμε. Μας είπε ότι το burger έπρεπε να το είχαμε γυρίσει πίσω και δεν είχε καθόλου άδικο, αλλά λέω εγώ δεν υπάρχει κάποια οδηγία από τον υπεύθυνο να ελέγχονται τα πιάτα πριν βγουν στον πελάτη?

Μια επιλογή λοιπόν πολύ κακή και ελπίζω να βοηθήσει και άλλους η κριτική μου. (Μμπορεί άλλα πιάτα που δεν δοκιμάσαμε να ήταν υπέροχα) Και το μαγαζί ίσως να...
