This art museum and former residence of the first royal couple, King Otto and Queen Amalia (1836-1843), houses a collection of antiquities, Byzantine art, sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs and metal, glass, textile works and also includes furniture arranged in typical living rooms of the Athenian aristocracy of the 19th century collected by art collector Lambros Eutaxias.

My wife and I visited this museum and was somehow interesting due to the fact that seems to be focussed on the one who donated all the stuff rather than explain something about the city.

The other rooms are well preserved with numerous art pieces and furnishing, one of the rooms, supposedly the dining room, is fully set with a banquet table which shows the splendour in which the wealthy lived during the 19th century.

There is just one room with a video explaining the history of the city.

The museum is close to Panepistimio underground station and is just aside the Klafthmonos Square, the ticket price is...

A excellent display of 19th century Greek royalty and nobility. This is a real treasure and something of a hidden gem. There's little signage until you get to the entrance. The entry fee was just 3 euros, me and my family were the only visitors there 26/09/2022. The rooms are beautifully furnished without being over the top, the rooms convey an interesting story of the relationship between the Greek Royal family and its people in 19th Century Athens. Downstairs there's also an interactive screen revealing more info about the history of the city. The building also contains many paintings of early 19th century Athens when still a small settlement. There's a small shop at the end with a limited number of postcards. We were able to stroll around at a leisurely pace taking it all in, such a contrast to the crowds of the Acropolis.

Highly...

This is a small charming museum with some unique art & antiques in recreated rooms from 19th century nobles. Some walls & rooms could do with a bit of repair and/or uplifting .... and should you be looking for many interactive exhibits then you will be disappointed ... there is one video and one interactive! However, presently I would truly recommend visiting the museum to see Konstantinos Papamichalopoulos' exhibition on the top floor 👍😊👍 that breathes fresh modern air into the museum's rooms with art ... full of mythical creatures ... that is daring, colourful and truly unique! 👍😍👍 Afterwards... step into the Black Duck Garden Café ... for refreshments. 😊😊

This museum is probably the only museum in Greece where you can still see the insides of a palace! It contains several objects relating to the everyday life of the King and the Queen. The famous huge painting is somehow unreal! Some of our favourite exhibits belonged to the first residents of the building, namely King Otto and Queen Amalia who were here for some years before their move to the Royal Palace that is now the Parliament Building.Rooms with preserved ornamentation and furnishings including a fully set banquet table reflect the splendour in which the wealthy lived during the 19th century.Art pieces are numerous throughout and we very much enjoyed those.
