Antigua actually used to be the capital city of Guatemala but in the 1700’s a series of devastating earthquakes hit the town and destroyed a lot of churches and convents and so the capital moved to what is now Guatemala City. Today, some of the ruins have been restored and others remain as crumbled rocks making for an awesome day of exploring and learning about the history! Here’s a list of some worth checking out!! Nice museum that you can enter via the hotel. It is great to see ancient Mayan culture in the ruins of an old monastery. The collection where modern pieces are placed next to old artifacts is a great idea with a not so great execution. And the text with the artifacts is not great. But the museum is worth a visit and has some beautiful artifacts from the Mayan culture.
