Terrible Experience – Overpriced, Dirty, and Very Disappointing We stayed here for two nights only because we had booked in advance, and we deeply regretted it. Compared to other hostels we’ve stayed at in Guatemala, this was a serious step down.
The room was extremely dirty – the sheets didn’t seem freshly washed, there was dust everywhere, and a constant musty smell from the damp walls. The walls were wet, there were tons of mosquitoes at night, and the shower only had cold water. The soap in the bathroom was diluted with water, the Wi-Fi barely worked, and the overall maintenance felt careless and unprofessional.
While the common area was relatively clean, after 11:00 PM you’re not allowed to sit or talk there at all – not even quietly. That completely ruins the social atmosphere you’d normally expect from a hostel.
The worst part? We paid 400 GTQ per night – a completely unreasonable price for this level of quality. Compared to other hostels in the area, we truly felt ripped off.
I usually don’t write negative reviews, but I felt a responsibility to share this experience so others know what to expect. If you’re considering this place – do yourself a favor and skip it.
I highly recommend Somos Hostel instead – clean, friendly, better located, and offering a much...
Read moreI love this place! Amazing upscale hostel at a great price. 💙 Mature backpackpacker type vibe. Stumbled across it after walking by for three weeks while walking my dog. It's unassuming from the outside but the inside is gorgeous. Big lush garden and communal area. I had a week and a half left in my Airbnb but decided to cut my losses and switch places. The location is perfect. On one of the only quiet grassy streets in Antigua yet 5 minutes walk to the center. The staff and owners are all super sweet and kind. Breakfast is everything you need. Coffee, eggs, beans, the whole deal. They even have a special spicy sauce that they make from a tree in their garden and have an amazing kitchen to boot if your budget conscious and want a nice clean space to prepare your meals. Sheets are soft, water is HOT with great pressure. Great Wi-Fi. Plenty of services offered such as laundry, tours, etc. They allow well-behaved animals and they have a sweet dog that greets everybody at the door. This place takes the term "hostel" to a whole new level. They have truly thought of everything. I give it six stars but google only...
Read moreChristian runs and owns the Hostel. He's got the type of personality you want when you're a guest at any place - he's friendly, helpful, offers advice when asked, offers help when he thinks you might need it. Saw him go after one of his guests after he discovered the guy left his phone in the hostel - didn't hesitate to hop on his bike and go after the van that took the fellow who forgot his phone. Not many would go out of their way that quickly and without hesitation to help out a guest he would probably never see again. Says a lot about Christian. Tepid showers, not really hot, decent food served. Bends are comfy, and ask for an extra blanket if you're there when it's cold. Coffee made for you before you get up - nice touch! Staff is helpful and friendly, WIFI is solid - I streamed movies while I was there. Laundry on premise - which is great for a traveler. Really, the only thing that was lacking was "hot" vs. tepid showers. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again when I revisit Antigua - when the weather is warmer outside! Great job, Christian. You are an excellent host. And have a great staff to back...
