We used the Budapest Go to buy travel tickets. The trains on line H5 show the QR code to validate the tickets, which we duly did (same as when going on bus or tram). At one point, a controller (dressed in shorts and T-shirt) came along and asked for tickets. We showed him our two tickets on our mobile. He asked for the extension ticket. I could not understand this, but he insisted that apart from the Budapest Go ticket (Ft450), we also had to pay the extension ticket since we were travelling to Szentendre. He said, in a very rude way, that if we bought the tickets from the vending machine at the station, the tickets cost Ft450 each... so we could not understand this concept. In the end he wanted us to pay the extension ticket. We had the to oblige... if we resisted, he would have also charged us a fine! But the worst part is that he did not accept credit card payment, but only cash payments. We did not have any cash on us, so upon arrival at the next station he asked us to go down, buy a new ticket, and wait for the next train. Read moreYesterday, Monday the 7th of August we had to get the tram to get to the station, a woman ticket collector came up, we had bought our tickets and we showed it to her. We had more tickets, so we just had to use one of the new ones and everything would be fine, but she refused to listen, we tried to explain everything in English but again, she kept repeating we had to pay a fine because we didn't use the ticket, even though we had them. I hope someone reads this and takes into consideration what happened to us. We had no intention of not paying, we had paid for the tickets. This leaves a very bad impression for wanting to come back or recommending this city or country to friends...

Shortly after entering the train we were targetet by ticket officers due to speaking a foreign language. We showed our tickets, which we (proven by the time on the ticket) bought just minutes ago. They however laughed at us (for not knowing that immediate stamping is a necessity)and threatened worse fines if we did not pay. They were extremly unprofessional, unable to operate their credit card machine and had us drive over 10min past our stop in the middle of the night.
They also informed us "this is how we do it in Hungary".
If this is how it's done in Hungary, I will not be...
