A very important monument to Hungary, to sacrifice and to freedom, when you understand it's meaning. The Statue represents Imre Nagy the Former Prime Minister of Hungary, and serves as a memorial to Imre Nagy's self sacrifice. Whilst protesting the Communist occupation students and civilians where fired upon by the Communist government who began openly killing civilians and destroying houses in many districts of Budapest in a bid to control the people by force. Tanks drove into the city and began shooting at civilians. In defiance of the occupational Communist regime, Imre Nagy was arrested and executed for...

A charming and symbolic place on the map of Budapest. The square with the Imre Nagy monument is especially enchanting in the evening - subtle lighting, a quiet atmosphere and a view of the Danube create an extraordinary atmosphere for reflection and a peaceful walk. The monument standing on a small bridge is impressive - it is not only an interesting artistic composition, but also an important symbol of Hungarian history. The perfect place for a moment of reflection and a photo in beautiful scenery. It is definitely worth stopping here for a moment during an evening walk...

Imre Nagy, 1896 -1958 was a Hungarian communist politician who served as President of the Council of Ministers of the Hungarian People's Republic from 1953 to 1955. In 1956, Nagy became the leader of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution against the Soviet-backed government, for which he was sentenced to death and executed two years later. I was at the monument on the bridge at night, and yet this important man impressed me with his stoicism.

A beautiful statue dedicated to Imre Nagy, considered a hero of the anti-Soviet uprising in 1956 according to one view. I think it's a harmonious and beautiful work. It used to be located at the Monument of National Martyrs, right near the parliament building. However, it was recently moved from there to its current location, which I believe is better despite setting aside the reasons for the relocation.
