The Statue of Columbo, located in Budapest, is a delightful and unexpected tribute that often surprises visitors as they explore this vibrant city. Erected to honor the iconic detective portrayed by Peter Falk in the famous television series, the statue captures the essence of the character with a charmingly realistic design. Upon approaching the statue, you will notice Columbo's signature trench coat and unassuming demeanor, perfectly reflecting his character's wit and intelligence. The attention to detail in the sculpture is commendable, from the slightly rumpled coat to the inquisitive look on his face, inviting passersby to ponder the mysteries he might be solving. Situated in a lively area, the statue makes for a fantastic photo opportunity, especially for fans of the show. It’s also a great conversation starter, as many visitors to Budapest might not expect to find a tribute to a fictional detective in the heart of this historic city. The surrounding area is bustling with life, with nearby cafes and shops, making it a perfect stop while exploring Budapest's rich culture and history. Whether you're a fan of Columbo or just a curious traveler, this statue adds a quirky touch to the city's landscape and highlights the diverse influences that shape Budapest’s artistic scene. Overall, the Statue of Columbo is a charming and whimsical addition to Budapest, embodying both nostalgia for the beloved show and the city's spirit of embracing unique art. It’s definitely worth a visit — you might just find yourself smiling as you pose next to this iconic figure!

Life-sized bronze statue offictional police detective Columbo (acted by Peter Falk) and his dog Basset Hound “Henry,” Though Peter Falk and the street's namesake, 19th century Hungarian politician Miksa Falk, were both Jewish, and the actor Peter Falk had ancestors from Hungary, there is no known family relationship between them. The actor's Hungarian connection was not through the Falk family on his father's side, but through his maternal grandfather. The statues, by the sculptor Géza Dezső Fekete, were put up in 2014 as part of a state-sponsored urban renewal project.

Very impressed by the dog, as I'd forgotten Columbo had a dog. It was like they made the dog then had a bit left over for the Columbo, very big dog, actual size Columbo. I offered the dog some chimney pot (a local pastry based delicacy). The dog seemed like he'd been fed/over fed. Columbo just seemed very confused by it, which I was shocked by because he was quite familiar with the local area, having stood there for years. And also more concerning his profession, that of detective.

A Terence-Hill páros, Derrick felügyelő és Columbo, alias Peter Falk. Ők azok a hősök, akik szinte minden magyar család bőre alá férkőztek. A szobor jól elkapott pillanatot ábrázol: Columbo töpreng - vajon mit hagyott a lefutott, 1959-es Peugeot 403-asában, vagy esetleg köti össze a gyilkosság szálait? Vele szemben a basset hound-ja, aki figyeli a gazdi mozdulatait.

A Columbot megszemélyesítő Peter Falk a wiki szerint "magyar felmenőkkel is rendelkező, zsidó származású Emmy és Golden Globe-díjas amerikai színész és filmrendező." Állítólag máig vitatott kérdés, hogy dédapja, Falk Miksa volt-e (a Pester Lloyd egykori főszerkesztője).

A szobor valódi neve: "Columbo hadnagy kutyájával", és a mű alkotója Fekete Géza Dezső szobrász. A szobrot 2014-ben avatták fel.

Columbo kicsit mulatságos jellemzése a wikiről: "Nem tudja megjegyezni a számokat. Kedvenc étele a csili, amit Burt éttermében szokott enni. Columbo imádja a feketekávét is.
