We did not have a good experience here. We stayed at the Marincanto hotel which shares the private beach. Marincanto has yellow chairs and the La Scogliera had striped loungers. We were in the loungers provided by our hotel as we were supposed to be and the bartender was very rude when we sat at the bar to get a drink. We went back the next day and felt the same way. We traveled for a week and went to other parts of the coast and ended our extended vacation back in Positano. We were so excited to have more time on the private beach, but our first day back it was VERY clear that the bartender did not want to serve us and was talking/yelling about us to the other staff. We were polite, kind, did not use any of there things. We bought the crazy expensive food/drinks there, and we were customers each day.
It dawned on us that the bartender for whatever reason must have assumed that we did not belong there and that we were not staying at the hotel. He treated us as such and made it very known. We were very uncomfortable and did not want to spend more time on the beach after that. I decided that it was ridiculous and we have every right to be there and paid a lot of money for our stay at the Marincanto. Not only was the bartender rude, but he would yell at the other female employees. It was really nasty behavior from a grown man. He was talking badly about us in Italian, but it was VERY clear that it was directed at us.
He made us feel terrible. We decided to go back the next day but I wasn’t going to let him treat us that way again. I ended up talking to one of the ladies that worked there and she felt terrible and this isn’t the first time this was an issue with the same bartender.
We ended up having a great day because the gal I talked to, let the bartender know what I’d said and it completely changed his tune.
Otherwise this location can’t be beat and the food is awesome!
The rest of the staff were great and very...
Read more100% RACIST towards black tourist!! BEWARE if you are a black person. My friend and I went to the beach to swim, within minutes one of the staff was signalling us to get out of the water because we didn't have a wrist band to swim there. He gestures for us to go further down the beach and when we did he came back within ten minutes asking us to leave the beach. We were only sitting in the water! He said we cannot sit in the water we can only swim in the water unless we pay. - it was racism for sure as half the people on the beach did not have bracelets yet my friend and I (both black women) were the only two being escorted off. When I asked to speak with the manager she insisted because she was cuban they weren't being racist and we had to pay to be on the beach. What a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. We argued and she grabbed my arm - PHYSICAL ASSAULT - saying I cannot film her and she's calling the police. Then she tried to detain us, however another coworker came and told us we could go. The "manager" (cuban woman) was screaming down the street at us to stay because she's calling the police on us. What a TERRIBLE experience. I asked to speak to her manager, I asked what her name was and who it was following us around the beach and she declined to give me any of that information. - I've been in Italy for two weeks and have not experienced this amount of RACISM AND PHYSICAL ASSAULT anywhere else. It hurts to see how racism is still very much alive in such a beautiful place.
Overall 0/10 - as for the beach - it's all pebbles and rocks, no sand so going barefoot is impossible without literally...
Read moreFirst things first. The location is amazing. The vibe is great and it feels so much more exclusive from just staying at the beach closer to the port. The view is amazing, the shower and toilet area is very clean. The food and drinks are very nice too.
But the price is not worth it in my opinion. The beach isn't the best. The waves are quite rough and there are large rocks that you have to cross to get to the water. The beach in Sorrento for example is much nicer for swimming.
The food was also very highly priced but I do have to say that the dishes did taste amazing. You also do have to book way in advance since they book out quickly but there is no refund option. Which also isn't great.
The staff wasn't the most friendly. For the price I would have expected a bit more care. But since it was my birthday we decided to splurge. Later on the day my partner told me that he had contacted La Scogliere beforehand to arrange something for my birthday. However, they responded that they did not do any services for celebration and if we would want to celebrate that we should just order a bottle of champagne from the menu. For paying over €100 per person I would expect more of a high class service. Which clearly wasn't the case. We did not expect anything for free, but just a bit of care.
Did I enjoy my day? Yes. Would I stay here again for the day? Probably not, because most of the excitement came from seeing beautiful Positano for...
