San Clemente in Santa Maria dei Servi — Attraction in Siena

This church sits a little apart from the lively town center and the busy streets, so it’s not a place where tour groups usually come. I arrived around 4 p.m., and for a while, I had the entire church to myself. Interessante visita leggermente fuori dal centro storico di Siena che permette di ammirare questa imponente basilica di Santa Maria dei Servi sorta dove un tempo si trovava l’antica chiesa di San Clemente utilizzata dai Serviti provenienti dal monte Senario nel 1234 per edificare il loro convento. I lavori strutturati per la sua ricostruzione e per i lavori interni terminarono nel 1533. La basilica di trova sul colle dominante la Valdimontone e dalla sua posizione si ammira lo splendido panorama della città di Siena. La chiesa presenta una facciata semplice e grezza, vi si accede da una ripida gradinata.
