What a horrible experience I had going in there. Never had I ever been treated this badly and rudely by the girl at the entrance. My very first stop in Venice after arriving today in the morning. It was raining so I had an umbrella. As I enter, the girl at the door tells me to set my umbrella down against the wall (she signaled where exactly with her hands) as umbrellas are not permitted in the exhibition area, which is understandable. I followed her exact command and I placed my umbrella where she told me. I started to see the exhibition really fast. Less than 3 minutes after that, I headed out just to find out that the umbrella had been stolen. As I approached her to let her know about this, she just replies “that’s not my responsibility”. I absolutely know it is not her responsibility to watch people’s umbrellas, but don’t tell them to put them where they can be stolen. I wanted to say that for future reference she should tell people to set their umbrellas down, but that they must watch them just in case. She would not budge, she kept telling me it was not her responsibility. Two other girls were with her and I said to them that I knew her job was not to watch people’s belongings, I just wanted to give them what I thought it was good advice by telling them about what had just happened . Instead I was told by the three of them things like “you are not paying for this exhibition” (it was free entrance anyway), as if the fact it was free prevented me from even complaining about the situation, unreal!. They said things like “I don’t have to listen to you” “leave, leave, leave”. I was beyond appalled by this treatment. I must mention that I personally never raised my voice, I never asked them to pay for the umbrella or anything like that, I just wanted to offer advice. My point was and is, don’t direct people to do something that can cause them distress and when they complain to you about this, you wash your hands of it by saying “it’s not my responsibility”. This is not about the umbrella per se, but about the principle of the matter, and...
