TERRIBLE SERVICE, this MUST be addressed by the management staff !! Apart from the service it's good so it's a shame...
pizzas were good, coffee was good, location was nice although a bit difficult to find the entrance to the actual sitting area.
BUT THE WAITERS... oh boy, I have never felt more degraded in a restaurant, bar or anything like that and I'm from Romania so not exactly high standards.
So, as we are walking in wandering around trying to find the garden the receptionist points us to the location and on the way a waiter (to identify him .. well in his 40's and balding) storms out of some room almost bumping into us, ready to push me out of the way. I move to the side and as he keeps walking turns to me and asks "just 2?". That must ve been his way of "inviting" us to the table, no hello, no nothing, then we just points us to a table as if we were kids being sent to the corner, quickly offering their 4.5 euros worth of water.
And here it gets interesting as our actual waiter, the villain of the place, old man, glasses comes to take our order a little bit early and so he has to wait extra few seconds while my girlfriend is asking him about wine to which he couldn't really offer any useful info and then leaves all pissy.
He brought the coffee which he kind of dropped on the table in a hurry, on the opposite end of the table where we were sitting and it was the same with the rest of the things... a nice "there you go" with an angry tone whenever he was bringing something to the table.
In short he was just acting pissed off with everything around the restaurant and making everyone feel uncomfortable for ... existing? its not like the restaurant was full or like there were not enough waiters, no, they're just ... not nice, arrogant, "superior".
There was one man that seemed pleasant, relaxed, also a bit older with a beard and glasses, seemed like he could be a bit of a manager? He felt nice to have around.
We were basically tense our wholr stay at this restaurant and trying to leave as quick as possible, I was effectively ready to leave as soon as we ordered after the interactions with the waiters.
It feels like a bit of discrimination based on the way you look; not rich? fancy? etc? = scum. it's middle of Venezia, a very touristy, hot place which involves bunch of walking... most people will walk around in comfortable...
Read moreShort version - we had fantastic service (shout out Danny our waiter), very good food, and an overall memorable experience. The negative reviews are entirely contrary to my experience.
My wife and I happened upon this place while we were tired, hot, and honestly a bit cranky (it is toward the end of our trip and we are running rather thin). It was early for dinner in Italy, about 6:30 p.m., but we wanted to eat near San Marco before heading back to our hotel. A woman, whose name I did not catch, suggested we might want to sit outside - she led us through a labyrinth that seemed to be several restaurants smashed together, ending in a neat little dead-end alley that miraculously had a nice breeze, so we sat down. At this point, I think we were both in a mindset where we were ready to dislike everything at the drop of a hat.
Danny was our server. I didn't know what to make of him at first - we were just starting to unwind, and he came in like a whirlwind of energy and totally changed the mood. He proactively wanted to make suggestions on food and wine, and it took me a bit to realize he was not at all rushing us, Danny just really loves helping people find the food and wine they want. Throughout the night, I went from a bit intimidated by Danny's enthusiasm to wishing every restaurant had a Danny.
My wife ordered the meatballs and mashed potatoes. She referred to it as a "kids meal" order, but that's what she wanted in the moment. She had a dessert akin to apple pie. Both were good. Her wine, which Danny chose for her after some discussion, was fantastic.
I had the seafood risotto. It's in the running for one of the best courses I've had in Italy. The tiramisu was very good. Danny picked great wines for both. He wouldn't tell me what he chose (I'm sure he would have if I'd insisted), so I was a bit worried about the price, but they were actually quite inexpensive.
Over the course of dinner, the food, wine, ambiance, and the service made a potentially disappointing end for our trip to Venice into a...
Read moreWe arrived on Monday April 25, apparently an EU holiday. But was told from friends that even though it felt crowded to us, for a weekday in late April, usually it is shoulder to shoulder later in the year. Weather went from cloudy and about 58 to light rain with gusts that made our hands quite cold and the boat trip out to Venice got down right cold with the cold, wet wind stinging our face. So as we arrived at the last stop, the cold rain made it very uncomfortable, and as we tried to seek shelter under the covered walkways, with everyone else trying to get out of the rain, it became clear we would have to move inland in order to find a reasonable priced meal. We walked about 15 ,20 minutes and passed several high priced places, and stopped in front of vinovino with a man hawking his menu in the doorway. We took a quick glance at the menu items and prices and decided it would be our lunch, and place to thaw out. Service was fine. I quickly picked out a curry chicken dish, and ordered our favorite wine, rosé. Waiter brought the obligatory bread with natural water, and them our rosé. Wine was very pleasant, and entre arrived as soon as we were thawed out. My dish was very good, and nice proportion. We skipped any café or dessert. Surveying the tab and noticed a 2€ charge that we could only surmise was a charge for bread.? We are not the type to lose sleep over 2€, so we paid the bill and enjoyed the rest of our time on Venice, as the weather had cleared, and the sun was creating magnificent photo opportunity all around us. Turned in to a post card day. Over all the service was typical Italian, and food was as good as I would expect...
