There are not many stores open but there is one great butcher where we bought different cuts of wagyu beef for Yakiniku and bought karage and rice balls from the opposite store. We bought shashimi from the fish monger - our meals for the day sorted , much cheaper than esting at the restaurants and better quality food. If you're around Beppu, want to get some good food and don't mind doing a bit of cooking, book a guest house like J-Hoppers where there's a functioning kitchen and a good space for dining, I highly recommend going to the fresh local market, get some good quality ingredients for better meals. Buy drinks from the supermarkets, save half the price from the vending machines.

べっぷ駅市場にある野田商店さん。とても人気で、日曜日の開店直後にもかかわらず10人程の行列。前日に買った海苔巻が忘れられず再度購入しに行きました。具はシンプルで玉子焼き、かんぴょうだったかな。別府に行ったら必ず買いたい逸品です。
