Kumano Nyakuōji Shrine — Attraction in Kyoto

Nyakuoji Jinja Shrine, also known as Kumano-Nyakuoji Shrine is located on the south-end of Philosopher's Walk. It was established in 1160 by Emperor Go-Shirakawa ( " Go = Ex-, retired, late " Emperor Shirakawa ) .The Emperor designated Kumano Gongen as a guardian of Zenrin-ji in Eikando which is located 5-minute-walk north of Nyakuoji Shrine and this shrine later became a guardian shrine of entire “Nyakuoji” area. Beautiful shrine you can find at the beginning of the philosopher’s path. It is dedicated to the three leg raven who led one of the emperors from kumano to yamato.
