This was an incredible experience - a must see for any tourist visiting Kyoto. The staff here are absolutely wonderful, so charming, sweet, kind and helpful. My partner and I arrived at the wrong location for our tea ceremony with Geisha - they straight away called us a taxi to take us to the right location and were so helpful with showing us how to get there and even spoke with the taxi driver on our behalf. When we arrived at the correct location, we were about 20 mins late, so the beautiful staff let us reschedule our ceremony to the following evening so we could experience it in full. AMAZING customer service and they went out of their way to be so accomodating and understanding. We were so appreciative and so impressed. The actual tea ceremony was so beautiful and we learned so much about the way of life for Geiko (Geishas) and Maiko (apprentice Geishas) in Kyoto. The Maiko who performed her traditional dance for us, answered our questions, and performed the matcha tea ceremony was so enthralling - it was such a sight to behold and I will cherish the memory forever. Suzuki (our translator and guide for the experience) spoke English sooooo well and was so informative and beautifully natured. It was an all round 10/10 experience and I would recommend it to...

Our private Geisha (Maiko) tea ceremony was truly one of the most memorable experiences of our entire trip to Kyoto. From the moment we arrived, we were transported into a different world — one of grace, tradition, and deep cultural beauty.

The experience began with us being dressed in exquisite, high-quality kimonos. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, helping us with every detail to ensure we felt comfortable and elegant. Once dressed, we were welcomed into a serene, traditional tea room where the atmosphere was quiet and deeply respectful.

The Maiko performance was mesmerizing — every movement, from her delicate dance to the subtle gestures in the tea ceremony, felt like watching a living work of art. We were given the rare opportunity to ask questions and take photos, and the hosts did an excellent job of translating and explaining the symbolism behind the rituals and the life of a Maiko.

This experience is incredibly intimate and personal — unlike the larger tourist shows, it felt genuine and respectful of the culture. We left with a profound appreciation for the artistry and discipline behind the Geisha tradition.

If you’re visiting Kyoto and want to experience something truly unique, elegant, and culturally meaningful, this is an...

Our family (my husband, our 14-year-old son, and I) had the most incredible experience at the PRIVATE Geisha (Maiko) Tea Ceremony and Performance in Gion Kiyomizu on July 1, 2025, at 2:30 p.m.

From the moment we arrived, everything was beautifully organized and welcoming. Getting to wear traditional kimonos made the experience even more special — we felt truly immersed in Kyoto’s timeless culture. Our host and translator, Yoko, was simply wonderful. She guided us through every step with warmth, knowledge, and patience, helping us appreciate the deep cultural meaning behind the ceremony and the Maiko performance.

The Maiko was graceful and captivating to watch — it was fascinating for our son, too, who was completely engaged throughout. Yoko’s explanations helped us understand the traditions and artistry, making it not just a performance but an unforgettable cultural lesson.

This experience was the highlight of our time in Kyoto and something our family will cherish forever. If you’re looking for an authentic and intimate glimpse into Kyoto’s Geisha culture, we highly recommend this tea ceremony — and if you’re lucky enough to have Yoko as your host, you’re in for the best...

For my first trip to Japan, one of the things I wanted to do the most was meet a geisha. I’ve always been interested in Japanese culture, including the mystery that surrounds the geisha. I made a booking about a month before going, and I’m glad I did because on the day we went, there were people at the entrance trying to go in without a booking and weren’t able to. They were fully booked for many days after. We were led to a tatami room while we waited for our geiko, word used instead of geisha in Kyoto. They asked us to not post photos of her face on social media to respect her privacy. They said photos of her back were totally fine, and that we could share photos and videos with our loved ones. We learned many things from our geiko. She told us the reason why she chose this line of work and answered many questions we had about the myths surrounding them. We got to play games with her and at the end she danced. From start to finish there was a lovely lady who was our translator. She spoke English very well, so there was not a moment we felt lost. I totally recommend people to visit them. The staff is amazing and they have different activities so you can choose from.

We reserved two months in advance for our private Geisha tea ceremony, through their English-friendly site. Make sure to come to the right address as they've two different locations and to come in advance for the Kimono dressing. Once we have arrived, we entered a path leading to a traditional Japanese teahouse. We were lucky enough to be alone and to savor every moment in tranquility. I felt so honored and impressed how elegantly the manager dressed me in a Kimono and how efficient she was to do my hair in a minute. I had a chance to choose my own Kimono, Obi, bag and hair accessories. Then, the manager proposed us to take pictures in the Zen garden. We took pictures with the Maiko (a young Geisha), and asked her questions before her dance presentation. After the Maiko started the tea ceremony, we had the opportunity to create our own tea and how to drink it in a formal way. Once it has ended, the manager offered us to roam around in Gion with our Kimono until closing time 6pm. Their service is heartwarming, humble and polite. Okini 💕

We reserved the tour and Geisha show with the added Kimono rental. I had a terrible experience with the Kimono rental. According to their website, you can cancel or reschedule by emailing them only. I messaged them at least 2 weeks in advance with reschedule in the subject line as recommended, asking to reschedule the Kimono rental time and never got response. So I tried the other option which was to type CANCEL in the subject line like they recommended to cancel. I did this 24 hours in advance as recommended and again, I never got a response. So we showed up at our scheduled time. It was 5000 yen per person before taxes. Hair and accessories were included but there are only a few options for kimonos/kukatas and the hairstyle is just a simple one where they choose what to do to your hair, only a flower for hair accessories. So my recommendation is to go somewhere else to rent kimonos. Otherwise, the tour was short but wonderful. I learned a lot about Geishas. The Geisha show was very short but it was a wonderful experience as well.
