Unsodo Corporation — Attraction in Kyoto

This is the place in Kyoto to visit if you’re looking for authentic woodblock prints!

This family-owned business has been around for nearly 150 years. They are one of the original printers of woodblock prints in Kyoto, and have a wide catalogue of prints. The owner helped me to find the style of print that I was interested in. She easily answered questions about the artist, the woodblock engraver, the printer, and when it was produced. She pointed out that all prints from Unsodo have their family logo on the corner of each print.

Beautiful, beautiful art. 🌸 I fell in love with this store during my first visit. Wood block prints, postcards (or extra-large bookmarks), printed canvas bags, notepads... gorgeous stuff at reasonable prices & the staff were really helpful. The gentleman who served me initially (Tsubasa Tawa) picked up on what I was looking for and showed me a piece that's become my favourite now I'm home. Recently visited this shop and had a wonderful experience. The shop has large selection of woodcut and woodblock prints from various series (even more than are shown on their website). The seller was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about woodcut prints. He provided insight to individual print series and explained marks on the artwork representing the original artist and the print shops. His friendly and helpful attitude made me feel like a valued customer. This is the best place to buy woodcut prints in Kyoto!
