I stayed with the hotel on new year's day to the 3rd as well as 8-10 Jan after a short detour to Niseko. I stayed in the traditional Japanese suite room which had comfortable futons, good heating and clean tatami flooring. The room was maintained well and the daily cleaning was great. The only gripe i have is thatif youre a light sleeper, you'd gently notice the hallway music playing at dawn - very quietly and possibly not noticeble to mid and heavy sleepers. There is also a constant rumbling - possibly from the aircon condensers on the roof. Again, not terribly loud to disrupt your conversations or TV watching, but in the still of the night you'd probably sense it. The lobby is bright, contemporary, uncomplex and unintimidating - unlike larger traditional hotels. A nice welcome for the usually-weary, arriving traveller.
While all the front desk staff were efficiThe location of the hotel is VERY central - right in the heart of Susukino, which is the shopping and entertainment district of Sapporo. Convenience stores are across the road and steps away. The famous ramen alley is a minute's walk away(if you can spot the almost hidden entrance) and the Nijo fish market is also not more than 15mins walk away. Head to the latter for freshly prepared seafood meals, dried sea produce or chilled fish/Hokkaido crabs and scallops at reasonable prices. Odori Park is a block away and th ent and helpful, I'd like to especially call out Ms Satoko Fujimoto-san for being accomodating on New Year's Day when we arrived as well as subsequent recommendations for good local food. She is friendly, speaks very good English (you'd probably appreciate and know what I mean if you have travelled extensively across Japan) and a great attitude befitting of a renowned hospitality chain such as Holiday Inn. I would recommend staying here if you're in Sapporo for business or pleasure. e main JR Sapporo statoin and the huge mall above it is a 20min walk away - on street level or snugly below ground via the Pole Town underground...

From the friendly staff , to the well appointed rooms, to the perfect location and price this hotel wins hands down.
Right from the moment we arrived we felt at home. The staff were so kind and helpful and happy to answer all our questions . They gladly phoned restaurants to make reservations for us and recommended some great ones too. They helped us with train ticket arrangements even writing down the details in japanese to show the station staff and happily stored our bags for us. Nothing was too much trouble.
As for the room , it was what you would expect from the Holiday Inn brand. .... Holiday Inn colours with Super comfortable beds , TV , and all the amenities you need.
For japan the room was a good size and it was a nonsmoking room too . Surprisingly there wasnt any smoke smell which was great as usually you get the smell from the central airconditioning.
We didn't eat at the hotel as there were so many restaurants and convenience stores in the area.
The hotel is located minutes from the famous Ramen Alley and Susukino area and within walking distance of the JR Sapporo station (20 min) , subway lines , koen, and other main attractions.
Overall for the price , location ,excellent staff and extremely comfortable rooms the Holiday Inn Ana Sapporo can't be beat.

Read moreI have been to Japan both on business and leisure and this is the first time that I am not satisfied with my hotel room. I have stayed at five star hotels as well as small hotels and inns during my visits and I find the amenities acceptable. I was surprised to find that Holiday Inn is a bit below the standard that I was expecting. I don't mind the small room but there is a need to improve the overall cleanliness and freshness of the room especially the bathroom. I stayed from December 16 to 19 and then came back on December 21 until December 23. The toilet bowl in the room that I was assigned during my second stay is not heated like the previous room. Also, I noticed that the bathtub is quite high that it is quite dangerous getting out after taking a shower.
Another issue that I have is when my friend and I asked the hotel reception for assistance calling the ski school to confirm our reservation. He kept on giving us the phone number when we asked if he can help us call. Also, he did not bother telling us that they can help us reserve a seat on the shuttle bus going to the ski school. I do understand that he is trying his best to converse with us in English but being an international chain, I expected that the staff should be able to converse very...
