Miyoshi Shrine — Attraction in Sapporo

Miyoshi Shrine is a hidden gem right in the heart of Sapporo. Tucked away near Odori Park, this charming shrine feels like a peaceful retreat despite being surrounded by the city. The grounds are calm and beautifully kept, making it a perfect stop for anyone wanting a quiet break during their Sapporo exploration.

What I loved most is its authentic local feel. Unlike some of the larger, tourist-heavy shrines, Miyoshi Shrine is where local residents come to pray for everyday blessings. It’s also considered a “power spot” for financial luck and success in studies or career, which adds to its appeal. There’s even a small Inari sub-shrine on the grounds dedicated to prosperity and achievement.

The shrine is very visitor-friendly. They offer omikuji (fortune slips) in foreign languages, which is rare and thoughtful for international guests. Collectors will also enjoy the goshuin (red seals) available here, a beautiful keepsake of your visit.

The location is extremely convenient — just a short walk from Nishi 11-chome subway station — yet it still feels tranquil and uncrowded. Open daily from 9:00 to 17:00, it’s easy to fit into your itinerary.

大通公園と札幌市電の狭間（はざま）に鎮座する緑の異界…じゃなくて神界です。境内面積およそ691坪。ビルの谷間にポツンと座する比較的小さな神社です。

綺麗で整った境内が印象的。小さいながらも立派な鳥居や本殿。手入れが行き届きまくりの清々しい雰囲気がステキです。

三越や4丁目プラザの交差点から徒歩数分。都会のど真ん中にこんな静かな空間があるとは。知ってビックリです。何度となく通り過ぎているはずなのにぜんぜん気付きませんでした。ステルス性能高すぎますね。光学迷彩でも施してるのでしょうか。

建立は1878年（明治11年）。現在地に移ったのは1879年（明治12年）のことです。この地に鎮座しておよそ140年。まさかビルの谷間に埋もれてしまうとは、誰も想像出来なかったことでしょう。（例外神様）

境内から一歩出るとそこはメインストリート。車や路面電車が行き交う喧騒の空間です。小ぢんまりとしていて緑もさほど多くなく、静謐とはとても言い難い境内ですが、鳥居をくぐれば雰囲気一変。凛とした空気に思わず襟を正したくなります。さすがは神様。

訪れたのは平日の午後。まばらながら参拝者がやって来ては願をかけ、去っていっては、またやって来て…。喧騒の谷間に流れる静かな時間。そこに居るだけで心が洗われるような気がしますが、それで洗われるならむしろ驚きです。きちんと参拝して神様のご利益を気長に期待しましょう。
