East Ikebukuro Central Park — Attraction in Tokyo

Small but cute park in Ikebukuro, close to Sunshine 60. As you can see from the pics, it was cold and the trees weren't in bloom yet. When I visited in late March 2023, the fountain wasn't working, but it was still delightful on the morning. Lots of cats! But they're very skeptical of people if you aren't a regular who feeds them. If you go, please don't harass the cats. Of note, this is a popular location featured in the anime Durarara. So, if you like that anime, it's a fun place to see in real life. The park itself is accessible from Ikebukuro Station (a very crowded 15 -20 minute walk for me) as well as Higashi Ikebukuro Station which was equally far. I enjoyed the quiet walk from Higashi Ikebukuro Station more because I enjoy seeing neighborhoods and daily life. Coming from Ikebukuro station will give you more shopping and, if you like the anime, more Durarara locations to see. If you enjoy shopping, great views of the city, and animals, Sunshine 60 is next door. There's a Pokemon center, One Piece store, My Neighbor Totoro shop, and a ton of Sanrio shops, among jewelry stores, dining, and even an aquarium. Swallowtail Cafe is two blocks away as well as several K-books. Didn't visit when I went in 2024 because time was too tight. I regret that and will definitely come back for summer to...

주말에는 오타쿠 여성들이 코스프레를 하고 있는 경우가 진짜 많습니다. 아마 근처에서 이벤트가 열리는 날인 듯해요. 그 외에는 그냥 조용하고 평범한 공원인데, 고양이가 살고 있어서 특유의 정적 속 따뜻한 분위기가 있어요. 누군가가 고양이 집과 먹이를 정기적으로 챙겨주는 것 같아서, 고양이들도 꽤 얌전하게 사람 주변에 머물러 있어요. 선샤인시티에 왔다가 적당하게 앉아서 바람 쐬고 싶을 때 들르면 좋은 곳입니다.

週末にはオタク系の女性たちがコスプレをしていることが本当に多いです。たぶん近くでイベントが開催されているからだと思います。 それ以外は静かで普通の公園で、猫が住んでいるのがちょっとした癒しポイントです。誰かが猫のために小屋やごはんを置いてくれているようで、猫たちも穏やかに過ごしています。 サンシャインシティに来たついでに、ちょっと座って風に当たりたい時に立ち寄るのにちょうど良い公園です。

On weekends, you’ll often see otaku girls in cosplay here—probably because of nearby events. Other than that, it’s just a quiet and peaceful park, but with a cozy touch thanks to a few cats living there. Someone seems to be taking care of them, providing food and little shelters, so the cats are calm and used to people.
