Around 1350 steps to the top and stunning views. Reaching a height of 280 meters above sea level (~918 feet), the ancient walls surrounding Kotor have served as an impenetrable shield for centuries. The first walls on St. John's Hill date back to the 9th century when Kotor was under Byzantine rule. Half of the way there is a small church dedicated to Virgin Mary built in the 15th century. Worth a visit!

In my opinion, it is best see this fortress fully from bottom to top.

Some people choose to sneak in through a hole in the wall near the top, but in my opinion, this doesn’t give you the complete feel of the fortress.

Entering is pricey- €15 per person, but gives you the opportunity to start the descent from the bottom and fully climb up on the fortress walls; making the most of the hike with a different view at every elevation, and you can explore the nooks and crannies...
