Amazing beef and service, somewhat disappointing desserts.
It was a 9.5/10 dining experience. It's a restaurant specializing in steaks and they nailed that, so I didn't dock my rating too much for desserts.
I would describe waiters as high-end restaurant grade, but slightly more casual. You can still expect high standard of service, but they do not go overboard by pushing your chair in to get you seated or grinding your salt/pepper for you. I personally appreciate.
I ordered a Mexican Aged Beef Tartar as an appetizer. It was creamy, with gentle flavor and mild spices for heat. It was served with home cooked corn chips, which were a perfect match for the tartar.
I had a medium rare Wagyu beef steak (for the first time) for main course. It was juicy (with small layer of beef juice on top), perfectly cooked and nicely presented. I'm happy to give it a 10/10.
The person I was dining with, had a Black Angus ribeye steak. The difference in meat was obvious, but the the cooking and presentation was just as perfect.
My steak was served with pepper sauce (my choice), which added a bit flavor when I looked for it, but was overall barely noticeable.
I picked cream spinach and their special fries for sides. They were amazing on their own, but not a great match for this steak. Fries had a strong flavor which often overwhelmed the steak. The spinach is thick mushy, which made flavors more difficult to taste, and it also filled me up quicker, making me enjoy flavors less in general. Not a fault of the side dishes, but rather my choice.
I got a coffee and Creme Brulee with icecream for desert. Creme Brulee part of desert is fairly regular, with thin sugar crust. The "icecream" felt a lot like thick sweet yogurt (I would never call it icecream), which in my opinion doesn't fit the desert. The yogurt is far too similar in texture and its flavor simply overrides the flavor of Creme Brulee, instead of complimenting it. This was the most disappointing thing of the entire experience.
My dining partner also ordered a Coconut Panna Cotta. The desert itself was fine, but some of the garnish felt poorly matched. For instance, meringue crunchies pretty much kill the gentle flavor AND the texture of the desert when eaten together.
The quality of steaks in this place is only matched by 1 other restaurant I know (I try them everywhere I can), so make of that...
Read moreIt took me awhile to write this review but I think it's a must to rate this establishment. Well, let's start from our server Stanislovas who was very arrogant and inappropriate with his behavior towards me and my guests. He would not apologize for any wrong doing but simply argue with his customers, which, I thought was extremely rude. Most of the food was pretty good but service was lacking. For example... we ordered appetizers to share among 6 people and he brought no share plates. He also was interfering with our order... I wanted to change my husband's order and he simply was cutting me off, would not listen. I thought that was really odd. Well, now I know why, he didn't let me change the order, simply because they had to sell the steak my husband ordered. The rib eye was 33 euros plus sides, so it came to 40 euros. It was the worst rib eye steak we ever tasted. My husband asked me to try to eat it and I could not chew it. But tried to eat it, regardless. We were in many steak houses around the world so I know my steak😀. Finally, I gave up and called the server. We explained the situation and asked him to take it away. Half of the steak was still on the plate. He didn't even apologized. He said, everyone likes it, we the only ones who don't. I told him it was not the rib eye or it was the worst rib eye cut we ever ate. I, personally, think they sold us cheap cut of meat, thinking that we wouldn't notice. We asked for discount when we received the bill for the steak and the server refused. I dont even think we should ask, since it is obvious. Any restaurant would have replaced the dish or would have taken it of the bill. Stanislovas was very rude in this situation, arguments were inappropriate from his side. I had to ask him to be more polite with his customers. The chef, usually ,comes out of kitchen and talks to unhappy customer, since he cooked the food. But no one even bothered. If I had time, I would not leave the restaurant, until the server took the steak off the bill and also the tip he didn't deserve. Our dinner was 300 euros. I don't think we got what we paid for. Plus, our mood was ruined. No wonder the restaurant was completely empty on Friday night. Go somewhere else. There are much better...
Read moreThe restaurant location is great, just outside the old town. A walking distance if you are visiting and staying in the Vilnius city centre or thereabouts. The décor is done tastefully, to make you feel welcome and relaxed. As for food, we’ve had mixed experience :) We had beef tongue and foie gras, to start with. Both were served on a strange stale tasting over-toasted slice of brioche, a very poor choice for both. Pity. Tongue and foie gras were ok, but what really stood out was the wasabi “ice cream” that came with the tongue. Despite the pretentious labelling as “ice cream”, the flavour was amazing and it went very well with it. The showstopper were the steaks. The beef was carefully sourced from Uruguay, matured to different levels and priced accordingly. They were cooked and seasoned almost to perfection. Almost, as we felt the chef went a bit too heavy handed on the salt. The sauce which the steaks came with was full of flavour, but again, over salted. My wife asked for the garlic butter but she did not get it, it was not even on the menu…strange. I loved the grilled vegetables, to offset the saltiness. For desert, we’ve had crème brûlée, Japanese cheesecake and chocolate fondant: my son enjoyed crème brûlée cheesecake was awful, bland textureless mess fondant was super tasty, passed the oozing chocolate lava test ;-) Service was very good by a professional experienced waiter. If we had only steaks with less salt, it would be 5 stars. And finally, with a decent bottle of Italian wine, we (a family of 3) spent almost 200 eur. Ok if the total experience was flawless....
