I stayed here for five days over Christmas, and it is one of the worst hotel stays I have had. First, though, the pros: cleaning staff is prompt and excellent. I particularly have to commend them over a sentimental point - when they turned up my bed on Christmas eve, they left a wrapped gingerbread cookie by a gnome ragdoll I had brought with me on the bed, which was very cute. The bed itself is very comfortable, and there was nothing wrong with the room premises itself besides being on the small side.
Breakfast was also very good. They serve almost the exact same items every day, though, which might be an issue for some who like to mix up their breakfast. The staple items include: scrambled eggs, fried vegetables, boiled eggs, pork sausage, cold cut ham, pancakes or porridge, fresh chopped tomato, cucumber, and lettuce, pickled herring, pickled carrots, beets, and/or sauerkraut, cereal/granola, yogurt, varske, waffle batter to make your own waffles, and both sweet and savoury condiments (ketchup, mayonnaise, nutella, jam, dried apples, raisins, etc.). Location is pretty much in the heart of Vilnius so it isn't long to walk to hit up most of the major sites.
Now for the cons: While the hotel has great noise insulation from the exterior, there is almost none inside/between rooms and even floors. There was a guest whose noisy, shouting children I could hear clearly and someone else's TV whose noise was filtering into my room when I was trying to get to sleep, and I assumed it must be someone on either side of me - but, according to hotel staff, there was almost no one staying in my vicinity, meaning all the noise was reaching me from one floor down (or possibly even more). So besides hearing all the other guests in the hotel at any hour of the night, you will get to hear every door slamming in the place as well. Had I not bought ear plugs my second night there, I would not have been able to get any sleep at all.
As regards the customer service staff here: they are very unprofessional and outright rude at times, probably because they all look and act like teenagers. That's probably by dint of a lot of older people in Lithuania being unable to speak English well if at all, and also probably from the better hotels in the area snatching up the professional/non-juvenile hospitallers. In any event, when I called the front desk about the noise, the person who answered was argumentative and largely unhelpful. On check-in, the reception was cold and did not explain anything about the hotel's service offerings. When I came down for breakfast too early on the day after Christmas, one of the staff snorted that I was too early because they were still on holiday time rather than going back to their normal weekday breakfast time, as if I was stupid for not knowing that.
All in all, between the noise and the juvenile staff, I would not be likely to return here with the prices they charge.
The Ibis Centrum is located approximately 12 minutes walk from the old town over the river into the new quarter. It is on the opposite side of the city to the train and bus station. My advice would be either to get a cab (25 euros!!), Uber or bus to the hotel. The airport bus also has a stop close by. ||Check-in was quick, friendly and professional. ||My mobility assist room was located on the 4th floor. Their are two lifts and both were working.||The room was large, light, modern and airy with standard ibis decor and fittings. A flat screen tv, hanging space, writing desk and air con, the double bed (2 x singles together) was extremely firm - too firm for me personally but others might prefer a hard bed. |The shower room was extremely large and spotless clean. My only wish is that ibis provide a shelf in the shower area to put your shower paraphernalia on. Not easy having to constantly bend to the floor to pick up shampoo etc. ||On the ground floor of the hotel next to reception is a lounge area, children’s play area, bar and breakfast room (ibis kitchen). |Breakfast is the standard ibis Fayre of hot and cold food. The croissants were particularly large and very good! |I did use the ibis kitchen for a casual dinner. The pasta dish was fine. I would have liked more choice though. |Note that the hotel does have an underground car park, and accepts well behaved dogs (supplement). |Despite the poor wet weather? I enjoyed my stay at the ibis centrum. |On a final note their was one particular member of staff I would like to commend. |A blonde haired lady (sorry I did not get her name) who worked the ibis kitchen and bar was extremely helpful towards me. She offered to carry my breakfast tray (I use a walking stick) , and when ordering drinks (pot of tea for 2 euros is a bargain) she brought them personally to my table. She is a credit to the hotel. Thank you
We arrived to a room that had one bed instead of the double bed that we booked. The bathrooms had loads of build up on the tile. Worst though was the bed. The white linens had visible stains and the entire bed smelled funky. Almost like it had been sitting in a basement for a few years. It smelled worn and not clean. We immediately went down to ask to have everything stripped off and changed. To their credit they offered us another room, but upon entering we saw that the build up in the shower was far worse and the linens weren't clean on that bed either. We asked for our first room back, but that we wanted everything including the mattress changed. They said they could just change the sheets, but not the mattress. We agreed. When we went back to the room we discovered the new linens STILL did not smell clean, had visible red-brown stains and smelled funky. We decided to just deal with it as it was apparently not gonna get any better.
We also got breakfast which left a lot to ask. Despite notifying months in advance, there were no lactose free options nor basically any vegetarian sandwich toppings. The eggs, pancakes and porridge were the only vegetarian things and they all lacked salt, which we couldn't even add ourselves as there was no salt around. Furthermore, the kitchen frequently ran out of several things during our stay. These did not get replenished, we just had to go without.
Lastly, during our entire stay there were people screaming by the vents, which made our stay unpleasant. You can clearly hear the other rooms through the AC. The AC is also capped at 20°C and whenever you remove your card from the lights-holder, it resetted whatever settings you made on the AC.
