Update 2: awesome Deepavali decorations in the main hall. Vibrant colours, mellifluous music and happy folks taking pictures with their phones. Sadly, the mall has lost two of my favourite go to places in recent months, the Mr Dakgalbi outlet that served great food with good service, and the Haagen Dazs icecream shop in the basement. Still a good mall. Got some fine stationery at super cool prices in Popular book store. The Mr Shawerma stall in the food court has got even better.
Update 1: I tried out the new Wok Heyy at the food court and had their Singapore Bee Hoon. Was tasty but not quite the best. The portion size was generous. Also got my tongue and taste buds blown off by the Signature Dry Pan Mee from the Uncle Kin Chilli Pan Mee stall. I knew it was going to be š¶ at another level for a first timer. Was fun and a learning experience. Survived and enjoyed it š š„ š„µ .... just about š š. The Gurney Food Hall has a lot to offer.
The Haagen Dazs outlet in the basement has to be one of the better ones the franchise has in the city. We tried the strawberry cheesecake and macadamia nut flavours. Top-notch!! Service was friendly, too. Happy days š¦š .
The Chinese New Year decorations at the mall are a sight to behold. Very well done. The shops are also all decked up for the grand occasion. We were served very well by a young man at the Skechers outlet. Very humble and kind service. At the food court Mr Shawerma was better than before. The chicken was well grilled and was delicious.
Update 1: The Christmas show is on. Great vibes and the decorations fill you with the zeitgeist of the festive season. Credit to the organisers to have the Christmas decorations made primarily from recycled material. The temporary stalls near the Mango showroom are selling some beauties. Lovely. Just clean your toilets more often with the additional footfalls in your premises.
Older review: Beautiful Deepavali decorations have come up at the main atrium. It is a bustling mall and usually more crowded compared to the more exclusive and upmarket Paragon down the road. On weekends it is quite a challenge to even get a footing on the escalators. The food court is quite nice with a large variety of foods. Some of the other restaurants are pretty cool too. With the new restaurants and bars opening in the neighbouring G Hotel it has become quite a food destination, albeit at a slightly higher price point. The cinema halls which we have not been to in a few months was in need of some TLC during our last visit. Some shops seem slightly short-staffed and this probably reflects on the level of service. But some standouts with decent service and good products are Bread History, Home's Harmony, Maxis, Daiso, Skechers, Swarovski, Popular Books and the...

Ā Ā Ā Read more21 Dec 2024: Don't come to Gurney Plaza in Dec and Jan. You will be stucked in traffic when you want to leave the mall. This plaza should deploy many staff to man the traffic so that we don't have to stuck in the multistorey car park for hours. The worse is, you have to pay for the traffic jam (parking fee) and when you call the staff at 04-2228221 or 04-2228222, they will tell you it is the main road traffic.
2022 May: 11am we are here with intention to do our shopping, went up to 4th Floor of the old wing and found that majority of the shops are not open yet. The whole 4th floor is empty like hunted mall, no people, shop still not open yet. I got an idea, for the kids, bring your roller skate and roller board, it is definitely a good place to practise your skill. Now we have paid for the parking, shops still closed, called the management, she passed me to the reception, then the reception passed me to security guard. I need to explained 3 times to 3 different departments that I'm on the 4th floor and what time is the business hours, all told me 10am and I asked why there are many shops still not open, all of them said don't know. Fantastic, just fantastic, what a mall. #gurneyplaza #gurneyplazapenang
2020 Review: Terrible management, they switch off the escalator to go up. We are on the 2nd floor at around 10.20pm, our car park at 6th floor, we were shock to find out that the mall switch off all escalator going up so we need to walk up the escalator. This is extremely unacceptable, what if we have elderly people? This mall management is really inconsiderate, why not the mall management install the sensor escalator so that it can save electricity instead of switching off too early as some shoppers are a bit slower...
